I remember seeing the film on him when we drafted him.  He looked quick, and he had a great move to shed tacklers on returns. 

 

The first time we saw him on the field, it was clear he wasn't nearly as quick as he'd appeared in the film, and that move he made might elude the first tackler, but he wasn't running away from anyone after that. 

Wasn't there a receiver with the last name of Lindsey or Shirley or something that was a camp wonder (for a couple years) around that time.....I think he had the (woman's first name) as a last name....

John Broussard was a guy who was a camp wonder.  He was spindly thin, but the guy would lay out to make catches in training camp and get up every time.  He did it once in a game, and that was the end of his career in Jacksonville.

 

I can't remember the receiver a few years back who did very much the same thing, making circus catches all over the place in camp.  He became a fan favorite for quite a few folks on the board.  He finally got his opportunity to start because of injuries, and he pulled his hamstring in pregame warmups. 

Nate Hughes?

Tiquan Underwood was another guy who flashed in training camp with his speed and maneuverability.  That worked out well.

Nate Hughes was never a camp wonder.  He was just solid enough to make the roster.

Yea he was definitely quicker than fast, but wasn't quick enough to consistently elude defenders at this level. When you're a 5'8 receiver, you better have some special physical ability, or be Wes Welker.

That's another guy who would thrill the crowds with his diving grabs in practice.  Turns out he was lighting up a bad defense in underwear practices, but couldn't make it happen with pads on.

Yeah, it probably didn't help that he ran like a 4.7 40.

Hankton showed some serious skills in training camp, and it seemed like the only thing holding him back was health. 

 

I remember quite a few folks, including JagsMac, started almost a fan club for the guy hoping he'd get an opportunity to show his abilities on the field in a game.  They had a rash of injuries at the WR position in his final season here, and he was penciled in as a starter.  He came out on the field, started stretching and going through the normal pregame routine, and all of a sudden they're scratching him from the lineup because of a hamstring strain. 

 

Any time he did get on the field, he disappeared, but for the few years he was here, he was arguably one of the most entertaining practice players we've ever had. 

Hankton at least had more than a cup of coffee in the league. 

 

Guys like Sharon, Hughes and Elliott were the real camp wonders.

Chronologically, yes.  Statistically, it was a small cup of coffee. 

Hankton at least had a couple of nice TDs IIRC.

 

And yes, I remember him from TC.  He looked like he could be a star.
