This is why I find this all funny; Caldwell could have went after an upgrade over Henne this offseason. His contract was up and all he needed was a starter for a year. He chose to stay with Henne. Caldwell has made it very clear he has no problem moving on past a player even without a viable successor to take their place.

I trust that Caldwell sees something and he feels that if you upgrade the team around him then Henne will play better. Top 40 qb? Give me a break. People really don't understand how much a qb needs some talent around him. Name one hall of fame qb who didn't have a top wideout on his team other than Brady.

I'm not saying the guy is elite but he's only gonna be as good as the wideouts and line in front of him. Since all that is upgraded it is easy to to think he will play better.
Quote:Fitzpatrick and Henne are probably a push.

I think Henne replicating Fitzpatrick's 2012 season is reasonable expectations. I think he can do just that.

Agreed.  I'm not expecting top tier numbers from Henne, but I do think we'll see more than 3,400 yards passing, and probably a 20/15 TD:INT ratio.

And yes, I do know he's never had a positive ratio in the TD:INT department.  That doesn't mean it's something he's not capable of doing with better tools around him.

Henne is familiar with the system - with another year under his belt with Fisch's offense.

On paper, it sounds good to bring in a better QB - but only just to start for one year... We already have a serviceable QB familiar with the offense now.

I think having Henne, who more experienced with this playbook, is more beneficial to the development of the rookie OL and WR's - than a "new" serviceable QB.

Yes, Henne is not good, but there were no better options according to the plan that Dave and Gus established. They went about building the team in the right manner, by drafting their QB and letting him become more comfortable with the playbook and speed.
Quote:Lets evaluate that statement

AFC east - Brady, Tannehill, Vick, and EJ Manuel are all better QBs than Henne.

AFC North - Dalton, Big ben, Flacco, and Hoyer/manziel are better or will prove to be better than Henne this year.

AFC South - Locker, Luck are all better. Savage and Fitzpatrick are debatable but I think Fitz is better.

AFC west - Smith, Manning, Shaub, and Rivers are all better. Shaub barely.

NFC East - Foles, Griffen, Manning and Romo all way better

NFC north - Stafford, Cutler, Rodgers all better. Bridgewater will prove to be better imo

NFC south - Brees, Glennon, Newton, and Ryan all way better

NFC west - Bradford, Kap, Wilson, and palmer all better

The only starting QBs that are even in question is Fitzpatrick, Bridgewater, and Hoyer.

i wouldnt say glennon is better than henne, also mccown is supposedly on track to start but who knows. id take hoyer over henne, every rookie should be rated behind henne. and then vick isnt going to be the starter, its geno, who i wouldnt take over henne right now because he is a turnover machine. there are 3 or 4 guys beneath him. anyway, the point is people are saying backup/third string. all i need is one other starter who is worse and my point is made.

I wouldn't hold me breath. Keep in mind this guy had Brandon Marshall in Miami among with a solid supporting cast and still couldn't get the job done. I think that optimism is good, but when it comes to Henne, he is what he is, a middle of the pack back-up.
Glennon threw for 19 TDs and 9 INTs in 13 games. I would take him over Henne.

I agree, but he also had Vincent Jackson and Doug Martin - both of which had really good years.
If Henne had those two I don't know that he matches those numbers. Though he did have more yards than Glennon. ..in garbage time late in games that were already lost.
Observers have mentioned how comfortable Henne has been in the offense during OTAs.

He was a very good re-sign.

As for Glennon... I agree I think he'll be good and had a nice rookie season, but TB was blowing smoke about letting him go.  They turned down several offers for him on draft day.

We will see what Henne can do with an improved line and returning to the same offence (which is probably rare in his career) I think he will show himself to be OK.

Henne will be average - above average this year if our new pieces work out. Let's face it, he had nothing last year outside of shorts who did have some issues.

Not sure if Ryan O is joking here or not...

Yes, more OTA talk please, you kids quit arguing about the QB in this thread.  Henne is the starter, period.

He's probably about as serious as he was when he said last year to play Matt Scott

I'm sure you're right, I should have known by the hashtag.

NH3...

Robinson's place in the NFL is a guy who can do a little bit of everything.  He's going to be very mediocre if he's just a runningback in the NFL.  A lot of college option QBs have tried to convert to NFL RB, but outside of Dave Meggett very few have had any impact.     When you eliminate the threat to pitch and throw, and defenders are able to focus on you as a runner, those guys get really ordinary really fast.

Well, Henne > Kirk Cousins (easily) and you think Kirk Cousins > RGIII...... so.....?
