does it matter one or another if he is still in the orginization at the moment?

He doesn't take a roster spot

They aren't counting on him

THey aren't paying him.

Think of it as a christmas bonus, don't count on it and then if you get one your happy no matter what size it is.
Quote:The Jaguars have made it clear they don't expect him back in 2014.

And? They aren't allowed to speak to him, so they don't know. Just like none of us know.

They drafted receivers because we'll need them with him gone and, even if he comes back, we'll always need extra receivers with him around because he's one mistake away from another huge suspension.
I'm betting the front office has a pretty good handle on his condition, even if they can't directly speak to him.

Teams hire private investigators to track mid round draft prospects.   They hire "entry level scouts" who's  job is to track every player's social media to make sure they aren't saying things to embarrass the organization.    I imagine an asset like the former 5th pick in the draft  draws even more attention than that.

They don't know? You really think that?
I would let him play a couple games. look good and then trade him before that 3rd or 4th game where he gets banned again.  but I'm an optimist.  might never get back in the league.

Teams don't know exactly when their indefinitely suspended players will be reinstated, no.

They should know when the player can apply for reinstatement.

From the sounds of it, nobody knows what's going on at the stadium beyond the very limited contact they've had.

The Jags shouldn't let Blackmon out of his contract here. Another team will get that talent for free and he'll have a chance to blow up elsewhere.

It hurts the Jags not at all to continue holding his rights.

Pretty much this. Hope Dave and Shad see it that way also.

I think they should remove his locker and should continue building the team as if he's not there because he ISN'T there and probably won't be for a long time.

If for some miraculous reason he comes back.... you leave him on the team and let him beat out some of the other scrubs.

You don't just cut him, it would be pointless.... unless he comes back with a really bad/toxic attitude.

I agree. It seems like everybody is in the dark, including Gus and Caldwell, which led them to "move on" for the season.

As someone else stated, maybe Blackmon hasn't completed all of the things he needs to have completed before applying.

aka he's still doing whatever got him suspended in the first place.

lesson definitely not learned.

If that's the case, the team would know this, and they may.
I know the team isn't allowed contact with the player, but can a player contact him?

For instance, if Blaine Gabbert from SF wanted to shoot Blackmon a text regarding his suspension, would that be allowed?

I just find it very hard to believe that nobody knows anything.

How far was the gap that you had to jump over to reach that conclusion?

I think players are okay to contact each other.  I just don't think Blackmon is responding to folks.

It's not really a reach.  If he's missed testing, or he's not completing treatment, the league would be aware of this.  There are guidelines I'm sure that he has to follow to satisfy the suspension.  If he's not there yet, the team would need to be notified.  They would know if he's not eligible to apply for reinstatement.
''Without having contact, we just have to protect the team now,'' coach Gus Bradley said. ''We've got to do what's right for the organization so we have to continue to move forward and project that. We've got to get some guys in here at that spot and that's why you've heard Dave talk about wide receiver is a need because of that. Now, if everything works out to get him back, that's OK. We always will love to get very talented players in here. But it's hard. But we just have to keep going forward.''

The NFL video is very very interesting. At 0:24 of that video, it shows his lapel pin being changed. There was one on, which was taken off, and replaced by a Jaguar pin. Did anyone else catch that? I wonder what it was.

Pretty much this.

Seems like by this time, he's had enough time to do whatever he needed to do to apply for re-instatement.

The logical conclusion is that

A) he doesn't care/want to get reinstated

or

B) he has not fulfilled any of the requirements (probably a type of rehab and frequent testing that comes back negative, etc)

or c) he is required to stay in the substance abuse program or whatever it may be for a specific period of time which has not expired yet.

I just don't understand why everyone is so negative when they don't know anything about it. 'tis the season for optimism, not pessimism. Wink

Or realism.

He's been suspended for over 6 months now.

Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE to have him back.

But from what it sounds like if you listen to everyone involved, it's just not looking promising.
