I cant wait to actually watch games this year... the last 2 years I really didnt care if I missed the games or not while flipping through all the games with my buddies... now?... Jags game is on the entire time at my house. End of discussion

i think telvin will be a starting OLB on this team eventually... like someone said above, the league is all about passing now, so athletic fast OLB's are very important

i cant believe how many good players we got in this draft... the DE reminds me of dumervill

Quote:Nice job guys!!!

That was beautiful. It was reminiscent of the sort of quality drafts that Jimmy Johnson and Buddy Ryan had in the late 80's early 1990's.

Only one pick that I disagree with and thought was bad value and that was the Center, I thought Tyler Larsen would have made more sense and better value for the position. But when we are talking only one pick that I question out of 9....we can sweep that one under the rug.

This Jags draft is loaded with value picks, as well as chocked full of players that I believe will be impact starters, not just role guys.

Here's the recap:

1. QB Blake Bortles

2. WR Marqise Lee

2. WR Allen Robinson

3. OG Brandon Linder

4. CB Aaron Colvin

5. LB Telvin Smith

5. DE Chris Smith

6. C Luke Bowanko

7. RB Storm Johnson

My grade: A+
I looked at the draft prospect rankings for centers on CBS Sports and there was an injury symbol next to his name. That must be be why he hasn't been drafted before lower ranked guys.

You mean Larsen?.....that would explain a few things...
Question.

Caldwell said he hoped for 4-5 eventual starters from this draft. How many have a realistic shot of being a starter this year? By 2015?

You know whats scary?..... (good scary Smile )

By 2015, you could make a strong case for every one of them, even Bowanko, due to the easier path to the starting gig.

well our QB and 2 WRs are obvious starters

our guard is a starter at RG

I believe our corner will start in 2015 opposite gratz with ball moving on or playing nickel

I think telvin smith starts by 2015

and storm johnson I think will end up being our number 2 RB unless denard steps it up

and in 2 years I think Smith is a rotational DE on 3rd downs at worst
Caldwell also said his goal was to improve the top third of the roster.

In my eyes...mission accomplished!

I haven't been this confident about a draft in any that I can remember. Dave Caldwell's scouting process sets the team up for success. Doing it the way they do it, keeping the scouting staff, coaches and Dave's opinions all separate so nobody gets swayed one way or another is a fantastic system.

One huge difference I see in this FO and the Gene Smith regime is this: Gene told us he had a plan...and didn't appear to follow it. Dave has a plan...and you can clearly see it develop as he drafts his guys. You can see the plan coming into fruition. Gene's 'plan' appeared to be a bunch of [BAD WORD REMOVED]. Gene says one thing and does another. Caldwell does what he needs to do in order to get his guys that fit his plans.

I was high on Gene when he started and defended him. He spoke big and followed through with nothing to show for it. I was excited by Gene's words, they made me a fan, I followed him. As Gene went on it was clear he wasn't doing what he mentioned as the 'plan' and it showed with his drafts. Which in turn showed on the field.

I was hesitant, to an extent, to get fully invested in Dave Caldwell. I was bit and burned by Gene Smith. I don't fault Gene, it wasn't as if he tried to pick the wrong guys. It simply didn't work.

This draft by Dave, coupled with the FA signings and last years draft, tells me we have a man in charge that finally knows what he's doing and he's actually doing it! Praise the Lord! This team has suffered from poor drafting for too darn long. Rejoice, Jacksonville, barring health concerns Dave has a solid plan in place to turn this team around.

Jungle Cat can poo on Dave all he wants. The only one full of poo in that discussion is Jungle Cat. Dave "doesn't know football", my butt he doesn't know football. Dave proved that this weekend.

I'm sold on Dave Caldwell. One draft could have been a fluke. That wasn't going to sell me on anything.

Then this year..he continued to show me he has a vision of where this team needs to be and he wasn't afraid to pull the trigger and get his man when he needed to. Caldwell has had some very good people to learn behind and it's clear he was paying attention.

To top it all off...we have Gus Bradley. That's a whole different piece to the equation and I won't derail the thread for that.

This is the best post I've seen on this board in a long time.

It's an exciting time to be a Jaguars fan, sure we probably won't be a playoff team this year, but everyone can see what they're doing and it all makes sense. Building a team for the future that can win year in-year out.

I just hope Joeckel and Cyprien are what we think they are. If Luke shows his stuff at LT, we can be competitive in the early part of the schedule.
Its pretty cool seeing so many people actually happy on here lol, I digg what we have so far, im hoping for the best! bring on URFA

Me too. Its like he got laid or something.
Arguably the best draft (on paper) in franchise history?

Feels like a dream..

I couldn't agree more. I can understand people not being excited about a pick here or there. But how can someone, as a true Jags fan, NOT be excited about what the team is doing right now? How can you not be enthused to see a team that has a forward thinking GM that by all accounts has a clear vision and plan of what he needs to do for his team. Not only does he have that vision and plan but he also follows it. I have to give Caldwell kudos for that. Whether the plan works or not is still to be determined but I feel confident in the process.

Then Gus Bradley...anyone who doesn't like him has no soul.

come on man I dont wanna think about that.

I know I am hoping against common sense here, but wouldn't it be great if Blackmon saw this draft class and got inspired to get it together and actually became a long term cornerstone?

Per all reports heading into the week that Joeckel got hurt, Joeckel was looking MUCH more comfortable in practice at OLT than he ever looked in games at ORT.

As for Cyprien....I think Cyrpien's play will improve as the talent around him does.
Quote:I give it a B+ just because in my impatient eyes, at least two of our top five picks probably won't contribute this year. Overall though, it was a very good draft. I'm excited for the season.
I agree with this.

I was just about to say something similar to that...

....saying as good as the draft was; - just think of the idea of ADDING Blackmon to all of this in 2015, and another good draft/ FA cogs in 2015....

:woot:

He'll benefit a lot from a year of coaching/experience. If the DL/passrush could step it up a level or two that would also benefit him (and all of the DBs) in a large way.
