I am SO damn excited for this team.  Contenders in 2015, guys.  I had forgotten what a good draft looked like.

Quote:I was just about to say something similar to that...

....saying as good as the draft was; - just think of the idea of ADDING Blackmon to all of this in 2015, and another good draft/ FA cogs in 2015....

:woot:
Then think that we almost landed Alex Mack. I mean wow, still great but could've been amazing.

I love this draft overall however it will still boil down to how well Bortles does. Having heard of the confidence Dave and staff had in that pick excites me! Great time to be a Jags fan.
Never been this excited for Jags football!

Great players and great utilization of the picks from trading former players.

And the CRaZY thing is, I actually have confidence that the coaching staff will make them much better! Sullivan has to be happy.

Good times to be a fan here! Something big starting!
Just to chirp in.....

When you draft well and supplement your free agency correctly, it doesn't all have to come down to the one Quarterback pick.  You build your roster to best support the position but if/when that one player can't do it, you find someone better.  I'm not saying it will be a major disappointment if the pick doesn't work out.  I am saying that this management structure isn't throwing everything in to being smarter than the rest.

I think Gene ignored the strengths of the draft class and went his way.  Caldwell has proven patient and has used Free Agency to free his draft selections to favor the value of the strength in the draft.  Deep wider receiver draft class and Caldwell leveraged the strength.  The team is better for the strength of this year's represented talent.

Very refreshing.

Where is mtown? No Jag laughing stock remarks?

Jag future has me wearing shades.
Like just about everyone here I have a "draft hangover" because the good picks just kept coming.

Going to take a while to come down off the high.

But one thing no one has said, we're dang lucky (for a change) that this years draft was so deep. Our position being #3  and our GM having us so many picks banked. It all combined to let us get some true talent for next year and years to come.

Hopefully we'll  never be at #3 again.

:thanks: Dave & Gus

Go home Gene....you're drunk.

(with apologies to homebiscuit, sorry for having to hand type, my quote box isn't working)

There is no question that this draft gets the highest possible grade at this point. If Bortles is given sufficient time to develop before they throw him in, he has fantastic potential. As has been stated on the board, all of his flaws are correctable. He not only has the size and mobility which you look for, but his intangibles are off the charts. Caldwell made the correct choice with Bortles and could not afford to risk trading down before selecting him.

Even though the ultimate grade of this this draft class will primarily be based on Bortles' success, the remainder of the selections were off the charts! Who would have believed Marquis Lee would fall to pick 39? As much as I loved Watkins, this guy was considered the number 1 receiver prior to his injury. As a Penn State alumnus, I watched every one of Robinson's games and the guy was " a man among boys." I have compared him to Blackmon because of the way he is able to snag balls while blanketed by defenders. He also has great run after the catch abilities despite not being the fastest receiver. He plays fast which is more important. The only negatives are that he sometimes runs lazy routes and can sulk a little when not getting the ball enough. Both of these are correctable and I see him and Lee, barring injuries, to be a dynamic combination for years to come.

I am almost as excited about the middle rounds, last few rounds and even a couple of the undrafted free agents. Colvin looks like a real keeper and it's obvious the staff loved him from coaching him at the Senior Bowl. He may not be the fastest corner, but seems to have all the other skills to be successful in the NFL and may even be moved to free safety if he fits there. Both Smiths' were great value picks and fit needs. I had heard they loved Chris and were glad he didn't perform that well at the combine so he might drop to the 4th or 5th round- which he did. He could be the Leo that they are looking for and Telvin will add much needed speed to the linebacking corps. What an upgrade with he and Dakoda Watson ! Finally, to be able to get Storm Johnson with the 7th round pick was fantastic. If he learns to be a better blocker, he could be as successful a pick as Jennings was in the 7th round.

The only negatives, and I'm reaching, are that they didn't get a starting center. They could have had Martin, but then would not have had Robinson so it's hard to complain about that. They also didn't get a pass catching tight end, but there's no way they could have met all their needs and Harbour will be o.k. to pair with Lewis for 1 more year. It was disappointing to lose Christian Jones, but he didn't even get drafted so I doubt they thought that highly of him anyway.

All in all, I couldn't be more pleased and the arrow is pointing way up for the Jaguars!

^^^ I wouldn't fret too much about the starting Center thing....

We don't know - maybe Brewster really IS better at Center than Guard like some speculate. If you remember, that was the case with Meester, too. Bowanko provides either solid depth to the OL, or a push to Brewster for the starting Center gig.

Putting Brewster at guard didn't ever make sense to me.  He was an UDFA center...and a darn good one in college.  He didn't get drafted for whatever reason.  He should have been used as a developmental center...and I think we'll see a better result with him being put back in his natural spot.  I'm not saying he's going to be Brad Meester but I think he plays at a higher level than he ever did at guard.

Yeah, and Bowanko allegedly played very well at Guard in college, which also gives Linder competition/ push for that starting spot too. Bowanko has certainly got the size to play Guard effectively in the pro's. Bowanko only played Center for Virginia because he was filling in for an injury. But either way....more depth and versatility.

His rookie year he played very well at center but once injuries started happening they moved him all over the place and he started slipping in production. Sometimes guys are just good at one position and I think that's him.
Very good draft.... Genius pick w/ Bortles. I still hold out hope that after next year Blackmon comes back a new, more mature young Man...

Remember all those "meaningless" wins we had last year you purported was going to cost this franchise for years to come because we were going to lose out on Teddy Bridgewater? Do you? You were first in line last November to declare we had to lose to move forward and losing a franchise guy like Bridgewater because of some victories was ignorant. Now you claim this draft to be an A+?

SMFH!

Live & learn....

Go kick a few babies, ya grump.

I think so too.  If he can turn out to be a decent center that will be a huge relief for the OL.  Outside of him he's the only guy I feel remotely comfortable with right now at center next season.  I don't see Bowanko being that guy, that feels like more of a depth with the chance to compete type of signing.

Man, chill out with that my brother and allow TMD to be happy for once instead of you bring up revisionist history that doesn't matter at this point, He just like everyone else is happy about this draft and all that other crap you're spewing out right now is irrelevant My great friend the ChiefJag not trying to bash you just suggesting that let the man enjoy this moment..
He'll be bashing this draft soon enough and when he's reminded of his grade he'll reply "live and learn"
