I will reserve judgement on Frangie (while crossing my fingers), as I haven't heard him do play by play.

Sexton was terrible. Once, when I was unavoidably driving to Ohio on a gameday, I had to rely solely on the radio. It was nearly impossible to keep up with the game situation. A pass was intercepted and the DB returned it. Sexton's play call petered out with "He's still running . . ."

He never said whether the guy was tackled or scored. I was in my car begging "Tell me what happened." It was not clear until after the commercial break. This wasn't one of those situations where there was any confusion on the field or from the refs. Sexton just never said it.

That is the time he annoyed me most, but certainly not the first or last time.

All I can hope for is that Frangie is better or only lasts a short time, unlike Sexton.
He was a nerd that should broadcast chess.

For a franchise that has done almost everything right over the last 12 – 15 months this is a real head scratcher of a move.

  1. As bad as some thought Sexton was (he was OK by me), Frangie is a HUGE downgrade.

  2. Rick Ballou as a field reporter is also a stupid idea as well IMO. Why him over Brent Martineau actually went to journalism school (I’m assuming). His voice is much easier to take than Ballou.

  3. The only positive for me in this is that I think Sexton will do well working on the team’s digital and social media efforts. The Jags lag far behind most of the NFL teams in the amount of Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram followers. In this day and age that’s important.

I’m one of those that listen to the game while being at the game and I can’t say that I plan on doing that anymore.

I would even take Cole Pepper over Frangie, why not him if they needed to have someone from a flagship station (WJXT)?

His repeating everything 4 times is what kills it for me. He could say what he has to say in 75% less time then he does.

To venture a guess, this is all probably part of the package that brought the broadcasts to 1010xl. 1010xl wants to shoehorn their personalities into it in the hope of leveraging that into increased listenership for their regular broadcasts. Probably why they were willing to pay enough to wrest the control away from the local super wealthy right-wing radio station.
Are we really jumping off buildings over this??  I was not a fan of Sexton's play by play, so I welcome the change.  Brian is a great guy and should do a great job in his new role.  All this means is more Jags coverage and I'm all for it.  Frangie is an acquired taste. I didn't like him years ago, but he's grown on me.   What's wrong with linking the Jags to the sole credible sports radio operation in town?  Good for them.

Credible? That's a REALLY low bar.  The signal doesn't even survive the City Limits!

I agree with this, but also know that his college work has been solid because play by play doesn't require an opinion most of the time.

Agreed.  I've listened to Cole do PBP for JU, and he does a decent job.

The problem with Cole, from what I've been told, is he has a pretty healthy ego to contend with.
This is absolutely terrible. This is definitely a case of be careful what you wish for.

<span style="font-family:calibri;">I don’t like that the new voice of our team is someone who’s first love is college football and even when it does come to the NFL his first love is the Steelers. This is a fact that he shares ALL the time! Also, the new field reporter may also be a college guy first and his first NFL isn’t the Jags either.

Jaguars hire Steelers homer as new PBP voice

Yes it is - have you heard the other station??  The 1010XL signal needs improvement - agreed.  But I'd rather have more coverage and wait for the signal to get improved than 1 show a week that can reach North Dakota.  Granted - it's not a great situation now.  I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that it will improve quickly - just like the Jags (hopefully).

As you've been told...

But then, it's not like you actually listen to Sexton anyway.

IMO he's having Shad's Mularkey/Smith moment.

Frangie is the glue behind the station he's on and he's a terrific guy, but I simply don't see this as a fit.

You know what that was?  That's a call out.  That's what that was.

Frangie is a good guy.  He is the man behind the curtain that put the deal together for 1010XL to exist.  He'th not the voith of the Jaguarth.

It starts breaking up where i live, near world golf village. Sort of annoying that I start my drive to work with static.
