Quote:What's funny is if you look at his scouting report, it sort of sounds like Marcedes coming out of college.  Witten had proven himself as a blocker and receiver.  Marcedes was simply a receiving TE coming out of college.  Not sure what happened there, but he's turned into Kyle Brady in recent years.

Niklas can catch the ball, but doesn't have the best skillset when it comes to running his routes.  Ho hum speed.  He's not much of a blocker, but he can learn.

I guess he's white, so that's the Witten tie-in.

Niklas actually is a pretty good blocker...lol....

He's simply been underutilized in the passing game, thats why he's not considered to be much of a receiving threat.

Quote:Yeah, speed and size with Sullivan as a coach?  Not a bad way to go, although I don't think he's quite 6'3".
My bad. He's 6'1"   --  I butter-fingered that one.   Blush

Doesn't change my opinion. Add in the 34,1/2 inch vertical and 25 yd PR average in college  -  he might be a really good get at #105.

Go read the scouting reports on the kid and get back to me about being a pretty good blocker.  I'm sure you've watched tons of tape on the kid though.
Not a fan of Teddy at pick 3, but huge Terrence West fan and would be happy to land Murray in the 4th as a developmetental qb.

Weaknesses
Work in progress as an in-line blocker -- lacks ideal base strength, grip strength and overall body power. Bends at the waist and falls off some blocks. Route running needs refinement. Is still learning to use his frame advantageously -- inconsistent traffic player. Lacks elite top-end speed. Average elusiveness and creativity after the catch. Could stand to play with more physicality and become a better finisher.
Draft Projection
Rounds 2-3

That's not even a Marcedes Lewis caliber prospect when he entered the draft.

Marcedes never came close to being the player in the NFL that he was billed as around the time of that draft.

I think the reverse will prove out for Niklas.

FWIW  --  the analysts that do the CBS prospect rankings have him going 73rd overall. (round 3) One of which is Rob Rang - who wrote that profile you linked.

I'd agree he's a pretty decent blocker.  I don't trust most draft profiles on players, especially nfl.com.  They are awful.  I forgot who it was, but a few years ago there was a player who they dogged in the report as being slow and unathletic and then he ran a 4.3 or 4.4 and put up great measurables.  I've seen nfl.com list positives of things like great route running and under negatives say he needs to work on his route running.  I only trust my eyes when I evaluate a player anymore.  I rarely trust anyone's word.

While I agree that Niklas at 39 might be a little high, he's not going anywhere near as late as 73rd overall, IMO. We'll find out by Friday.

Aren't you all about value?  lol just messing with ya.

I definitely think you're going overboard with the Jason Witten comparisons.  Witten is a HOF TE.

I really think a more reasonable comparison is Marcedes Lewis.. and even that's fine at #39...  It's just weird that you would find Niklas so appealing when you bash Lewis left and right.  They're much more similar than you think.

Now, if you were in favor of drafting a TE like Ebron, I could see the differences....  but Niklas and Lewis are very similar, both in size and skillset.
I do still want Bridge, just doesn't sound likely.

Niklas is a developing player. He's only played the position 2 years. So its not like this is a 4 year player and this is it as far as ceiling.

I stopped reading at Teddy at 3.

LOL, so many anti-Teddy's....

Quote:LOL, so many anti-Teddy's....

...and why not, with so much more talent available at #3?  Even some of the biggest Ted fans see the value isn't there.  Way too early.
I agree.  If we pick him at 3, I think I'll be a bit disappointed, but will obviously hope for the best.

If we're going to swing for the fences in a QB, we should do it with Johnny Football.

Those crazy people that want good value with a top five pick.

Well, yeah, they claim to, and then cite small school, average sized LB'ers and averaged sized, screen pass catching WR's as players to take at 3 instead....

As opposed to a rail thin QB that can't grip a football without gloves, comes from a system that schemes WRs open, and prefers checkdowns to taking chances to inflate numbers.

See how that works?

If he were who you think he is, we'd already be talking about facing him in Houston.  But he's not, and so we're not.
