Sometimes he makes valid points.. it's just his unwillingness and pessimistic nature that is rather aggravating at sometimes.

Quote:Now that we have a stable of LEOs with Babin and Celmons - is there any way we don't draft Sammy Watkins #3??  Perhaps we sign a WR too, and then it's anyone's guess.

In this years market all bets are apparently off.  I feel almost guilty with all the spending.  It's just no what the Jags do.  I keep pinching myself to make sure Dan Snider isn't posing as Shad Kahn......
To me, this gives Caldwell an excuse to pass on Clowney and draft Watkins, or maybe even Bortles or Teddy.  Better yet, he can now justify it when he trades down to pick up additional picks so somebody else can take Clowney.  Win-win situation for us.  Pass rush is seemingly improved ten fold, and we don't have to worry about drafting the potential drama-queen, entourage-loving, speed-demon that is Clowney.  Yes it will suck if he goes so where else and is a beast, but I will take my chances and draft a QB or Watkins.

Don't forget, we still need a starting OG, Center, WR and probably RB, so the extra pick(s) will help tremendously.

Sorry its whats going on, we have our starting front 4, we won't be drafting a rotational player that high.

Bradley is looking to strengthen our pass rush and secondary, a linebacker is not as big as need as what people make it seem

Teddy might not even be there.  Word is Cle. likes him and the have the ammo to jump us and trade with the Rams and the Rams only move back 2 spaces and they still have a choice at the top 2 guys on their board.  Cle. just let go of Weeden and Campbell and fired Lombardi because he liked JFF, that tells you right there.  I bet Browns make the trade up and Clowney falls right into our lap if Hou. takes Bortles.  It would be a blessing in disguise

I can be fine with that there, Bridgewater off the board and we get Clowney (would love to see him get to 285-290) and he plays DT as well as DE

I don't see Texans passing up on Clowney though, motivated Clowney and Watt = franchise qb

This is why I feel the the Jags are putting out info on not wanting a qb, to make Cleveland feel that it is unnecessary to move up. Avoid the bidding war

There wont be a bidding war, Dave would not trade up.

I hope he wouldn't, I just don't think he wants to chance a team jumping ahead of us for whoever we like (Clowney, Bridgewater, Watkins, Bortles etc)
Gearing up to give Clowney a group of guys for Clowney to follow.

If there is a qb there that we like, its the qb before Clowney

Win shares that Clowney adds?? 2-3 maybe 4 wins. Thats puts us at mediocre and scrapping along for qbs

Win shares that a true franchise qb adds 6-7 maybe 8-9 if he is elite. That puts us as perennial contenders for years to come

Cleveland will not be influenced in any way by "rumors" about Caldwell's interest, or lack thereof, in any player.  This is the NFL.  "Hey look, your shoe's untied" doesn't work here.

If you feel a team won't pick a certain player ahead of you, why trade up valuable assets when you can sit and wait.

There is a lot of talent still at the 1:26 spot. You don't make that trade unless you really really feel the need

Because there are 30 other teams who may trade into that spot ahead of you.

What if Texans go Bridgewater then its either Watkins or Bortles.. Would rather have Watkins..

If I were a betting man, I would put my money on Sammy Watkins at 3.  I am sure Caldwell would love to trade down and get some more firepower in this draft but if he is stuck at 3 watkins makes sense.  He was there in Atlanta when they gave up a ton to move up to get Julio Jones.  I think Caldwell understands there isn't a QB worth taking at 3rd overall.  Henne needs a deep threat that can stretch the field.  Give the QB some weapons and give him a fair chance to be successful.  Blackmon is a non factor until he is reinstated.  That could be never.

Sorry, but I really don't think that Clowney/Mack will be the pick after today's signings. Clemons/Babin/Branch will split snaps in the LEO role, possibly with Ryan Davis and a later draft pick mixed in. If we go anywhere with the number 3 pick besides QB I bet we go to Watkins.
I don't see any real opportunity for Ryan Davis to make this team out of camp, honestly.
