Bidding war for a WR of this caliber?? :blink: Good Lord, I'd hope not.
Meanwhile, the Colts are meeting with Hakeem Nicks today. Not sure why we instead aren't targeting someone like that. He's only 26 and has been a 1000 yard WR and is a better RZ threat

Probably because his price tag is much higher.

On top of that, last 2 years he hasn't even played that well. Last year Sanders had more catches and 6 TD's to Nicks 0.

Nicks was battling nagging injuries the past 2 seasons, but his ceiling is proven & much higher than Em Sanders.
I'm not even saying we need to be getting Nicks in here, but his skill set/ size or bigger is the kind of WR we should be targeting, not another small framed dude.

He had zero TD's last year and had 3 the previous year. Sounds like a Jason Hill level RZ threat.

Yes, in a perfect world, maybe, but right now, we have almost no one of starting caliber at WR except for Cecil Shorts. Plus tons and tons of cap room. We need a WR (or three) badly, just to have a decent set of choices in training camp.
And as for your oft-stated point about us already having a small WR, and that we can't use more than one, I would point to Mark Duper and Mark Clayton.

Keenan McCardell was a 4th WR for Cleveland the year before he came to Jacksonville.

Thats the 80's, man.....Duper & Clayton wouldn't enjoy the same success in todays NFL.

I actually agree on Nicks if we could get him on a 1 year deal. He would hopefully be motivated/healthy enough to produce and give us a skill set similar to what Blackmon provides -- with the added benefit of letting the team get a picture of where things stand with Blackmon through next season.

Related to the info you provided and the discussion about some of the UFA WR's from 2014, the following was reported in the Detroit Free Press a week before the FA period began. It's one of the reasons why Hakeem Nicks has high risk associated with him:

Of the top receivers expected to reach free agency next week, Jacoby Jones, who played for Caldwell with the Baltimore Ravens the last two years, had the lowest drop rate according to Pro Football Focus, dropping just one of 38 catchable passes (2.6 percent).
Hakeem Nicks and Julian Edelman both had drop rates over 11 percent in many more targets, according to PFF, while Golden Tate (4.5), Andre Roberts (4.4) and James Jones (3.3) were on the low side.
Eric Decker, the best free-agent-to-be at the position, dropped eight of 95 catchable passes (8.4 percent), and Emmanuel Sanders (6.9 percent) had five drops on 72 catchable balls.
