Quote:I heard on 1010XL that the deal is 4 years worth 17 mil with 5 guaranteed. How do y'all feel about that?
great deal
I don't know why you all care how much he's getting. You all are not getting any or paying it. Just be happy he's onboard and he does his JOB! :woot:

Quote:Hey Seasea have u watched Jags SS Jonathan Cyprien and do u think he's similar to Cam Chancellor? I realize Cam has play a few years Cyp just 1 yr just wondering your thoughts. Thank You

Sorry, I didn't watch Cyprien enough in his rookie season to make a fair comparisions, but from what I have read pre-draft, their playing style is similar, although Cyprien is not as big as Kam. I've also read they were connected last offseason through Bradley and developed a friendship. It's also worth noting Kam wasn't a starter in his first season (we had a veteran Lawyer Milloy starting at SS back in 2010), so Cyprien has more playing experience at this fase of his career than Kam had after his rookie season. We'll see how he'll develope though. I think he could be a good if not great player for you in the future, but it will be harder for Jaguars to find your own version of Earl Thomas, which will be more important if Bradley wants to "copy" our defense.
Seahawk fan here. I've been following news of your team since the Jags hiring of Gus Bradley. I'm sure i'm not the only one.

I cannot begin to tell you how disappointed i, and many of my fellow Hawk fans were, to learn that we had release Big Red. He was an absolute leader both on and off the field and one of the fan favorites to emerge from our new regime under Pete Carrol and John Schneider.

Bryant started out as a DT and almost flunked out of the league. In a weird experiment he was moved to DE and emerged as an absolute beast of a run stuffer.

Let be clear, even though he is a DE, he is not a pass rusher. You should not expect him to be. What you can expect is for him to be a monster space eater against the run and instant improvement in this regard. He is exremely strong and able to eat up multiple blockers like a DT, only he does from the end position.

The other on field area he excells at is blocking kicks. I've seen him two it many times with great success.

He is not an elephant, or a leo. Those are two names for the same position that are a primarly super athletic pass rushers from the weak-side DE positition.

Elephant was the original name and was called this solely to distinguish it as a "Special End" position to avoid confusion. On chalkboards it was noted as "EL". Pete Caroll (Or an influence on him),switched the name to LE or LEO. Its stictly a shorthand way of speaking. It's not an abbreviation as far as i know. It's similar to the linebacker names of

SAM - Stongside Linebacker

MIKE- Middle Linebacker

WILL - Weakside Linebacker

So you add in:

LEO - Weakside DE Pass Rushing Specialist

Here is Pete talking about the Elephant:

Here is a little bit more about the LEO when it was introduced to Seahawk Fans. My understanding is that Gus is running a very similar system to what Seattle had from 2010 to 2012. We now have Dan Quinn, who is a bit more aggressive in the pass rush than Gus but still adheres to Pete Carroll's defense.

And here is a bit more about the Hawks Base Defense as a whole. I think you'll notice many similarities. Good luck to you guys:

Copy your defense? I think you mean remake his defense
I'm sure it's been mentioned  - but I'm just back on the board after a break....

With Bryant getting up there in age - a rotation of he and Tyson at the position could be a good thing for both of them. Fresh legs late in the game against the run can be big.

I imagine that's what we'll see, but who knows...

We are in fact "copying" their defense. NFL is a copy cat league, its not like its a bad thing. We are running the same scheme and looking for the same types of players. But who cares, thats smart.

Hawks just re-signed Michael Bennett. Chris Clemmons cut is much more likely now. He'd help your team. Was returning to form in the playoffs following his ACL injury last year.

Ideal LEO, though a bit older.

Sure he was influenced by Carroll - but many of the principles and formations are in line with his prior coaching gigs.  Seattle's D still has Bradley's fingerprints on it as well.  He's copying the hawks D as much as he's installing HIS.

In all seriousness - it's primarily the secondary that will look very similar in Jax as they acquire the talent.  I see the the line and LBs evolving to a slightly different approach.

That's why I wrote "copy". I didn't mean anything bad with that. Like Jinjo said, it's copy cat league after all.

It could be. But Carroll has a background as a DB coach at the start of his NFL coaching career and still has a strong influence on our secondary, although we have a good DB coach in Kris Richard. Bradley was a LB coach in Tampa before coming to Seattle, so it could be LBers will be your best defensive part in the future.
I'm glad the Hawks and Jags are in different divisions. It makes it easier to root for a team you don't have to always play against.

Good read. Thank you Seasea and thank you basis4day. It's great to have Coach Bradley and Todd Wash/Robert Saleh. I'm looking forward to watching Big Red. Go Jaguars
“It was an opportunity I felt was too good to pass up,” Bryant said on a media conference call Monday.

“I had expressed to Gus that I had given Kansas City my word that I would come in for a visit,” Bryant said Monday. “(General Manager) David Caldwell, the trainers, the strength coach, all of the coaches on the staff … they made me feel so welcome and made me feel like I could really come in and be a factor in what they’re trying to do.

“It was an opportunity I felt was too good to pass up. I’m just so excited for this next chapter in my career. Hopefully I’ll be able to have the same type of success that I had in Seattle in Jacksonville.”

“He gave me an opportunity to let me know what the direction the football team is going to be moving forward, and the hint that I got was good,” Bryant said, adding, “He told me what he would be expecting from me. (He) also made me feel like he was confident in bringing me into the organization.

“He told me he watched a lot of tape on me and he liked what he saw. That’s what he wants me to bring to the team. Although most people want to say Coach Bradley influenced me, (Caldwell) definitely did his due diligence in terms of studying tape and finding out what kind of person I am and what he’s getting and what his expectations for me are.”

“It’s been a good fit for me in terms of it’s made me get on the field and give to the team with my tendencies,” Bryant said.

“I speak on Gus from personal experience,” Bryant said. “I know he’s going to do everything in his power to help the Jacksonville Jaguars be a successful team. He’s got a knack for talent. The general manager has a knack for talent.

“They have a vision, from the owner to the general manager, to everybody in the program, they know what their vision is and they are committed to it. They’re not going to spare any expense. When you have that type of commitment to winning and that commitment to excellence, only good things can happen.”

“I really believe the future is going to be bright. I really do.”

“I know it’s a business from the top down and I believe Jacksonville is definitely moving in the right direction, and I am excited about being there.”
