Quote:Absolutely agree.. I'd love taking Manziel, but at 3, give me Clowney or Mack..

I also agree, I like McCarron in the third... as long as we pick a starting caliber qb by the third, I think we can still upgrade the position...
Would love to get a potential franchise QB with the 3rd pick but i'll settle for a sure fire pass rusher
I have no interest in what any source says about any teams draft plans at this stage.

I know there would be some grumblings but I would have no problem with it if Clowney is off the board and we're not convinced that Bortles, Bridgewater, or Manziel are franchise quality QB's. The way I see it, we've got a huge hole to fill at the Center position, the Right Guard position, and even the Right Tackle position. Matthews offers experience and ability at all three positions. It may not be the greatest or most sexiest choice out there, but, he would be able to help out all across the board from day one.
Do not forget about Sammy Watkins. He could be a supise.

LoL @ Jags passing on a 1st round QB just because we have Chad Henne....

It's not unusual. Remember not too long ago the Colts passed on Luck because they had Curtis Painter

True. Forgot about that

It's not like the Jaguars haven't repeatedly passed on franchise guys because they had losers already on the roster.
Quote:This doesn't change that if anything, it advances it. By choosing Henne as the backup they pretty much tip their hand that they won't be selecting Manziel. A more mobile backup would have been chosen than the statue that is Henne if Manziel was a serious option for the Jags FO.
You mean kind of like how Flynn and Wilson were so similar?

Mike Vick and Chris Chandler were practically clones.

As were Kerry Collins and Vince Young.
When the Redskins named "RGIII" as their starter, I had a hard time telling if it was Robert Griffin or Rex Grossman. They are essentially twins.

Oh, lets not forget that we wasn't drafting a qb in the first round of 2011 draft because david Garrard was in the middle of his 6 yr 60 million deal that he fleeced from wayne weaver.

Quote:I don't think we're getting Clowney or taking a QB in RD1. Either HOU or STL takes Clowney or Bridgewater. At this point, with the 3RD overall selection, I think Caldwell will play it safe and take either Jake Matthews or maybe Khalil Mack. Though I am a bit worried about Mack.
If Clowney isnt there at #3 I say trade down for the extra pick.

Easier said than done

You can't just push a button and trade down.   If Clowney isn't there, there may not be anyone who wants to trade up.

News flash- the people who passed on franchise guys because we already had losers on the roster- are no longer here.

Other than a new owner, GM, head coach and scouting staff. WHAT'S CHANGED???
