Quote:I agree, but the majority of people are talking like if we simply grab Coughlin or Mike Smith that the floor is the playoffs in short order. All I have been trying to point out there are plenty of examples of the other side of the coin when hiring proven head coaches too.

I dont believe that at all. i do think they get a roster that is clearly talented to an ok record like 6-10 or better though year 1. This team shouldnt be picking top 5 even with hoe Bortles has played.

Theres risk everywhere, but a lot less with a proven successful HC.
Quote:Ok what about Rex Ryan then? Super Bowl winning coordinator and also won assistant coach of the year. Had good success early like Mike Smith. Not playing a brand of football that is outdated or whatnot.

Almost guaranteed to be fired after two seasons.
NO!  Rex Ryan is an overrated blowhard who, outside of two early seasons with the Jets, has done squat.  We don't need his circus with the Jaguars.

I don't know about that. Yesterday's game (and really the past five or so games after TNF) are an example of the defense doing enough, by most standards to win the game.

This defense in the past two games has had *three* goal line stands which they surrendered zero points. Maybe developing a legit pass rush makes it from a good defense to elite, but asking this defense anymore than that is probably unrealistic (or at least not sustainable over a course of 16 games).

Special teams scored 7 of our 20 points.

ST contributed to 2 of the Texans 20.

Defense got an INT, gave the ball to offense in the 25 yard line. They got -7 yards offense and kicked FG.

I would have liked the defense to play and adjust to the QB change, but when your offense contributes 20 yards, 11 yards, 8 yards, -10 yards, and 15 yards in the 2nd half, at some point its not going to hold
