Seriously, if we hire another first time guy and he flops, we are going to be at like 12-13 years of losing seasons by the time hes fired.


Its ridiculous. It needs to stop. Id rather be safe (especially when the safe option has won coach of the year with multiple playoff appearences) than sorry.

I'm just not closing the door on the potential next Coughlin. What Larry Fitzgerald said about Kyle Shanahan when praising Julio Jones. I want that to coach us.

So, it’s very difficult for you to game plan to stop him because he’s never in the same place. They move him around. They do a great job of getting him matched up on ‘backers when teams are in base defense and things of that nature. Aside from his freakishly unbelievable, God-given ability, in terms of running and quickness, he’s very intelligent to be able to digest everything that coach has him doing in terms of the formations and where he’s aligned. Agree strongly with the last two posters. Which is why I like TC and Smith. And Marvin Lewis, if he becomes available. I still can't believe the Bengals would fire him.

I like Kyle Shanahan but the quote really just gushes about Julio with a slight nod to Shanahan.

i feel like everyone talking about wanting guys with experience who are disciplinarian is just a covert way of saying "old white dude who yells at everyone" cause thats their idea of what a good coach looks like.

Generally when you don't win a single playoff game in 14 years, your seat tends to get a bit hot.

Okay name some proven HCs on the market with better resumes than Coughlin or Mike Smith.

People want a veteran head coach that has had good success. Name some other guys that have proven success like Mike Smith and Tom Coughlin that are on the market.

I think that has a lot to do with Coughlin's success here. A lot of people want Coughlin or Coughlin 2.0.

Thats fine if YOU dont. But I dont like the idea of hiring another Gus who was a highly touted DC that never lived up to expectations. Sure, Shanahan, McDaniels, Patricia, etc. Could end up being a good HC, but theres a chance they dont.

Right, so perhaps people are bringing them up because they are guys with experience with the best résumés. Not just because they are oldish and white.

Yeah more than 1/2 even, all but the last line and a half. I can't remember the last time I've seen Arob in motion, or the main option on a bunch formation, or schemed to be matched up against a LB.

 

They literally just stick him out there to be on the island vs the other teams #1 corner and that is definitely part of the problem. I would love to see some of that creativity.

Easily. It will never make any sense to me that people think they know who will be fired before those men are fired unless their employers have already announced it before the last game. Everyone thought Chuck Pagano was on his way out and many people also expected Jeff Fisher to be fired the same year. Lovie Smith's termination shocked everyone. Rumors swirled about Jim Caldwell losing his job, but he was retained. Marty Schottenheimer was fired after a 14-2 season and Steve Mariucci was fired after taking San Francisco to the playoffs. Speculating who will or won't be fired on January 2 before January 2 is a waste of time for me.
