I think Smith is a decent coach and wouldn't hate it, but it would feel like another half measure. This organization needs a full reset, not a tweak this and see if that fixes it then tweak that and see if it fixes it. Smith would feel like a tweak not a reset. 

 

I still want Coughlin in as the familiar head of the snake as President of Football Operations, and then everything else in the front office from the GM down to be completely fresh.

I don't know anything about this guy, but he is a coach on the Bucs staff with OC experience.

I wouldn't hate it. Not my first choice, but wouldn't be mad

This is a similar description to Del Rio's career when the Raiders hired him. The difference being that he only had one playoff appearance, but 4 teams that were in the hunt in December.

Seriously though, Bucs fans seem pretty upset of the thought of losing Mike Smith.

If Mike Smith is hired I really hope he can get a big name OC to come here.

While he might not be as exciting as a fresh offensive mind such as Haley/McDaniels/Shanahan, Smith is proven as a HC is pretty solid all round.


From what I remember of him he has very little time for bull and holds a high standard. Pretty much gotten results everywhere he has been in. In Atlanta he didn't fix himself to any one style of play. They were a power running team and a high volume passing team during his years there. His downfall was he actually decided to change from his favoured 4-3 to a Mike Nolan ran 3-4 in order to get more of a pass rush. It failed but he at least tried something new. Also his special teams units were top 10 every year he was in Atlanta.


Currently doing great work with a young Bucs defense very similar to ours. He would be a very good signing as a HC for me, I'd trust him to get us back on track more than anyone else.

I want an offensive HC.  No more former DC as HC.  Smith can put you to sleep.  He was mostly lucky in Atlanta.

They got Davon House listed as "high prized free agent" when he's not even playing anymore. I'm not sure how "legit" this source is.

 

That said, I'm ok with Smitty. He was a well liked guy here, a successful HC in Atlanta, and I believe he's one of those whose second time will be better than the first. His scheme is very traditional and we've got the players in place already with IMO, the change of Marks or Day (or even Jonathan Allen with the 3rd pick) forming a tremendous 1-gap penetrating DT combo. 

 

Myles, IMO, makes for an ideal and prototype cover-2 MLB for Smitty's defense.

I view him more as a safe, experienced hire. Solid, no nonsense kind of guy... and no ice cream .

Not a knock it out of the park , wow what a hire!

 

That is if he comes here......although I would think he's been waiting on another HC opportunity.

I'd be OK with this.

Anyone have any ideas as to who his OC would be?


I'm confident Smith would do great with the D, but our bigger issue is trying to find someone who can optimize the talent on offensw

As an aside, I do not fault Caldwell for the Bradley hire. I think it was a great move at the time but where I do fault the front office is retaining him after 2 seasons and also not parting ways at any point during last season or this current one. 

 

Gus did not develop himself or his talent. He had promise and enthusiasm that we needed but he lacks everything else you would want in a head coach.

W/respect to Bradley, Not giving him the time to which the Jaguars did give him would've been a Travesty much as giving him the time that the Jaguars gave him was. I feel that he won't get the opportunity to prove his worth and I say this because the play of the players and the Refferring of the referees doomed his fait as he attributed to it...

Mike Smith has been removed from the HC rankings for what? One Year. He's finally got the Tampa D to see it his way as they're playing Lights Out on D. I'd rather have Josh McDaniels, an offensive minded HC that'll give the DC reigns to prevail unlike what we have now...

I don't understand why Mike Smith wasn't given a look for our DC vacancy last year.

I dont hate Mike Smith as an HC but if this is true it means Dave and Blake will still be here which is so troubling.

McDaniels only successes have come with Tom Brady as his QB.  I'm not sure how anyone can specifically separate and identify his successes there.  You can clearly identify that he was a failure in Denver though.  I'd be very leery about a McDaniels hire.
