You are not making sense. If you are worried he is Haynesworth, that would require him getting a 100 mil first before slacking. Haynesworth was arguably the best defender in the league while on his rookie deal at TEN.

Only maybe one or two years tops, and it was contract time, before that, Henderson was much better for many years, and Haynesworth was just alright. People knew before he got that contract about the concerns with Haynesworth, but Washington gave it too him anyways. Although I haven't heard of Clowney stomping any centers, so I guess he has that in his favor.

I am sure most posters here already figured he was about the money. So does this statement change your feelings at all on the possibility of drafting him? I want him to to come here and be dominant, but I get the inclination that he will only be dominant in contract years. Anyway, this kind of statement just confirms to me anyway, that Clowney is all about protecting #1, and I just don't think he will play hard unless he has incentives to hit.

 

It may be time for me to be off the Clowney wagon, that character is just too much of a concern for me from the outside. Maybe we will get some more info later that shows otherwise, but it just sounds like he is just playing for money, which just isn't gonna get you to be a top performing DE consistently.

 

Do you work for free? Are you good at your job?

 

No one plays this sport for the "love of the game". Some people put a lower priority on money, but people want to get paid what they're worth.

One thing that struck me is that Dave wants quick and high velocity accurate throws, essentially beat the rush

 

Bridgewater is the only qb that demonstrates that a consistent basis. 

 

I also doubt bridgewater will show up to the combine under 210

I watched most of his games last year. He was very lackadaisical on the field.

Haynesworth was a major disappointment most of his career. Shockingly, his best season was his contract year. Once he got paid, he went right back to being a major disappointment.

Based on the effort he showed last year, Clowney isn't totally committed to being competitive.

I think there may have been moments when Clowney phoned it in as a result being frustrated with double-teams.  I think he played with heart more often than not. 

 

If it is an issue  - I have faith in Caldwell / Bradley to find out before drafting him. 

 

If he has a motivation problem  - I can't think of anyone better to light a fire under his butt than....

Most of you have completely missed the point. He didnt say he would like money for playing, he said he would stay in college if he was being paid. Which somewhat implies that he has more interest in the money than playing at the next level. Thats a problem.

Can you honestly say Clowney is a competitor, all the time? The guy has got to have some drive other than money, to be an elite player in this league. Plenty of guys have 'talent' and can't make it happen. I know Clowney is arrogant, but does he take pride in his craft? I am not so sure. Reminds me a bit of Vernon Davis before he got kicked out of a game by Mike Singletary. The guy was bogus till it clicked for him. My question is, will it/has it clicked for Clowney, or is he a Haynesworth type(at best)?

 

Did you stay at a Holiday Inn last night? So much junior psychology here. You don't have a clue about Clowney. You take a quote and run with it. Sounds like you're worried that he may be uppity and not worthy of your exalted standards of "love for the game". How about you check back in ten years and see what kind of career he has before you impugn his character.
