Quote:So he can smear Teddy Bridgewater all over the field while we, once again, spend 10 years finding bookend tackles to block bookend blue chip DEs within our division.

Yep, I'd like to sit through another 10 year showing of "Robert Mathis and Dwight Freeney II: Except this time they're on crack"

The right QB and offensive scheme can offset good bookend DEs.   We haven't had talent of creativity in the past 10 years ...

I just don't see Clowney being that good.  He's a nice ESPN highlight but I'm not convinced he can be, or is driven to be elite.

Considering how many starting QBs are in this league, they have to come from somewhere.

And take a look at how many weren't picked in the top 3 picks of the first round.

There is no guarantees about anything...
Quote:Matt Schuab was not good by any stretch this year but he is still a top 15 or better QB.

I agree that last year he was terrible (73.0 passer rating with 10 TDs and 14 Ints) ---- I'd drop him down to ~ #25 as I'm not sure he can recover.  Looks like his confidence is shot.   A change should help some.
Quote:Most of you have completely missed the point. He didnt say he would like money for playing, he said he would stay in college if he was being paid. Which somewhat implies that he has more interest in the money than playing at the next level. Thats a problem.
I am not sure how many of them actually looked at the link, but I appreciate that you got the difference.

I don't know why people think he will come here and play well just for money. When people do stuff well its because A. They have good character and always want to do things well or B. Have a love of what their doing.

More money does not make someone a harder worker, it does make other people notice how lazy they are tho. If Clowney has no interest in playing football other than to get paid, he will never live up to his elite billing, cause he won't try.

That's a very general statement and can easily go both ways, and the 2007 Giants proved that much.

I'm confident enough to say that, if Clowney is selected by the Jaguars, he will be the franchises' first season-end award winner.

They can get a QB next year.  But that doesn't mean they will.  Or at least it doesn't mean they'll get a good one.  If it were that simple, the Jaguars would have had one by now.  Or the Raiders.  Or Browns.  Or Vikings.  Or Bills.  Or Titans.  Or Buccaneers.

Do you usually defeat your own arguments on this board?

What are you talking about???

Your the guy talking about "arrrrgh the texans can get a qb next duh duuuuuh"

You smoking.

And you're the guy insinuating that they can't. Now does that honestly make any sense to you?

If the Texans need a quarterback they can get one at literally any point in the draft after picking Clowney. Why do you people make it seem like having Clowney and having a good rookie QB have to be mutually exclusive?

I am not saying they "can't" but you don't who is going to be available in the draft and where the Texans may land

And you don't know which ones will be good NFL players or not. Even if they have the 32nd pick next year, they can still grab quarterback if they absolutely feel they need one, this year and next year

But that doesn't mean they have to pass on Clowney or all bets are off.

Same thing applies for the Jaguars if Houston decides to go in a different direction.

Like I said, they are not mutually exclusive, and very rarely does the highest picked QB in the draft retire as the best of his class.
