I actually think it is. If we don't sign him, then we NEED to take a QB at 3. We'll still probably take one there regardless, but NEEDing to do anything in the draft is bad because everyone knows you NEED to do it. Takes away options.

I have a weird feeling Henne will be starting next season and our new QB will sit behind him.

I can almost guarantee that will be the case if Henne is re-signed almost regardless of who is drafted. In my opinion, it's the smart move to make.
And now there are three threads on this.   LOL.

I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Henne start with a rookie taking over by week 9 or 10.   It's no one's dream scenario obviously -- but it's a realistic possibility that wouldn't be the end of the world for a team that's in year 2 of a massive overhaul.

ugh I don't know if I can take another season of Henne starting at QB...............

DiRoccos an idiot if you havent noticed that yet.

If the Jaguars draft a QB 3rd overall, the rookie will start, it makes no sense to draft QB that high so that he can ride the pine behind a guy like Chad Henne. If we choose to draft a QB in the later rounds, I can see that rookie sitting behind Henne most of the year.

He does have a few wacky opinions so far in his brief tenure covering the team.  His insistence that they should cut Blackmon now w/o waiting to see if he may be re-instated and contribute again is a head scratcher IMO.  He's only costing a roster spot and very little money as he's forfeited much of his salary heretofore -  should the organization choose to recoup.   Too much time covering the Gators I guess.  :teehee:

If it wasn't obvious before then his mancrush on Henne should make it clear.

He actually never stated anything terribly positive about Henne that I noticed.  He only conveyed Vito's opinion in the latest "reading the coverage" piece.

In his previous QB piece he only stated that he thought the Jags should focus on defense early and take a QB in the third. I don't read "man crush" from that.  More a lack of faith in the current QB crop.

I'm just going by memory here so maybe it was kuharsky before dirocco started, but I can recall articles espn's afcs coverage in which he seemed bizarrely complimentary toward Henne. Calling Henne anything more than a little less disastrous than Gabbert comes across to me as giving the guy too much credit.

He didn't take long to back me up on my comment about his strangely positive opinion of Henne. He's declared Henne to be the Jaguars MVP.

He never called him the MVP.  He reported that someone else did. Are you just reading the headlines?

Quote: Our NFL Nation reporters and Scouts Inc.'s Steve Muench and Kevin Weidl have teamed up to identify each team's most important player and which player in the 2014 draft each team can target to groom as a potential replacement -- MVP insurance.

I don't agree with some of DiRocco's opinions - but at least I figure out whether or not they are his in the first place.

That's correct, I did read it, but the article doesn't make it particularly clear that he doesn't hold the same opinion or what parts should be attributed to Steve and Kevin. Is the whole article actually just him posting something written by someone else?

Maybe he agrees  - but it doesn't read that way to me.

Quote:Henne obviously didn’t tear it up, but he did bring stability to the offense and rarely put the team in a bad position.

The Jaguars are almost certainly going to draft a quarterback in May, and offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch and head coach Gus Bradley would like to have someone experienced with the offense to mentor the young QB and be the starter if needed.

You don't go into the season without a QB. As bad as Henne may be, it isn't worth risking not having a QB as good (or bad) on the roster. The next one may not be as good.

There are already two other QBs on the roster who would serve the purpose of taking snaps and losing miserably and other equivalent level talents that will become available in free agency. If Henne wants anything beyond "I'm just happy to still be in the league" money I can't call it a reasonable price for the services of someone at the bottom of the league level.

Please don't take this the wrong away.  I'm seriously not trying to attack you at all  - but the Henne hate agenda is growing really tiresome.   Again.  Anyone with more than 20 posts on the board knows how you feel about him.  No one here is championing the guy and we all want to move on as soon as possible.    Maybe you should move on with the repetitive bashing as well.  Just a suggestion.

That suggests he's still holding out hope for Gabbert.

I just like to talk about the Jaguars and things that matter for the Jaguars. QB play is important. If the Jaguars are rolling with a Henne/Gabbert/Cassell/Clausen level guy next year it's going to be painful, and I don't want the team wasting dollars they could spend on decent free agents chasing QBs of the current level.
