I agree that it feels more transparent then in the past. I like that Gus wants us to be a part of it as best we can.  We can't know everything, but Gene really acted like he was protecting nuclear secrets and it took a lot of the fun out of it.  It doesn't take much to make most of us happy.

 

Side note, I love how Caldwell seems to enjoy his job.  I have seen a lot of GMs who are so stuffy.  I understand its a stressful position, but Caldwell seems to really embrace the role.  i loved last year how he said he was going to draft a punter at #2.  He approaches things with a bit of levity and I like that.

I do often post as myself.  Ron Swanson.  However, due to a weakness I have, known as being a Jaguar fan, I sometimes may appear emotionally charged on the message board.  This is something I've vowed to eradicate from my life.  The emotions, I mean. The last time I was emotional it resulted in marriage.  Twice.  That didn't work out.

Now now Chief, it's best for Kotite's ego if you let him down easy.  Maybe something a little softer before you totally remind him, and others like him, that drafts are not controlled by MB's on the interwebz.

Interesting information from the forum. As others have said, it's refreshing to se the organization be fairly transparent about their moves. I believe the one on February 6th will be archived on Jaguars.com, so that will be fun to watch.

Forgive me for being another skeptic......maybe one of those GM's can explain why moving from 21st to 20th is twice as much of moving from 20th to 19th (or 19th to 18th)

Wow. That was some unsolicited snark. Those value boards aren't universal, and certain drafts are certainly better than others top to bottom. Didn't realize that innocuos statement would be interpreted that I think I know better than a GM or have a huge ego. I think that b.s. jab was unwarranted and ignorant.

I mean if we're gonna talk about ego, where does repeating your name at the bottom of every post rank?

Atlanta traded two 1sts, a 2nd, a 4th and a 7th for Julio Jones.  People said Atlanta gave away too much.  Dimitroff said, "We accomplished, in our minds, becoming more explosive. We also believe that we need to continue to grow as an offense and we will never look back on our move as being one that was overly expensive. It was something that we deemed was right for the organization at the time. Again, Julio was brought into our organization not for the here and now only, but for the future of the franchise."  It was a bold move that paid huge dividends.  Julio Jones has been a top receiver and someone opposing defenses need to scheme for every week.

Here's your precious draft value board ripped to shreds in a 35 page report done by a professor from the Wharton School of Business which was commissioned by an unnamed NFL team.  Just because you ticked me off.  The value board is a guide.  A tool which has been misused for decades.

I think atlanta should regret it. It depleted their depth and cost them the playoffs this year

I respectfully disagree.  They had some cap issues and opted to cut two former first rounders (Jamaal Anderson and Michael Jenkins) shortly after that draft.  Atlanta got a bona fide playmaker.  They don't grow on trees.  I agree you need to fill a roster with depth.  But the Super Bowl is won every year with guys who have the ability to take over a game.  You need as many of those as you can find. They used some of that extra cap money to re-sign some guys they already had on their roster.

Who the Browns ended up taking has little bearing on what the Falcons may have done but if you want to frame it as who got the better end of the deal I'd agree the Falcons probably did. If JJ's foot is sound.
