Someday you'll get there

Yeah, well we're just hicks living in Jacksonville, without nearly the sophistication one gets from living in or near Philadelphia.

All we can do is observe and hope to learn from our betters.

Lets not forget New York, where some of the smartest sports talk is broadcast, i.e. Mike Francesa for example.

Not "hating" but theres probably no question that the average football fan in NY or Philly and probably Boston is smarter than the average fan in Atlanta, Jacksonville or Carolina.

Fans from the southern cities seem incapable of bashing their own players, even when it is warranted. (unless its so beyond obvious like in the Henne & Gabbert cases) People in NY have no issue giving proper blame to their Jets or Giants.

I feel so inferior.

There's a reason for that you know.

And yet some people in the Northeast still don't understand why they are considered the most shortsighted and provincial of sports fans.

"Smartest sports talk" = people I agree with.

Show me one piece of evidence that would convince anyone that the average fan in New York ... blah blah blah is smarter than the average fan in the South. I assume your southern bias is showing.

I was born in New York City, and some of their fans, particularly regarding the Yankees, are insufferable. And as homer as they come.

So stop patting yourself on the back. Hate to break it to you, but you and your Northeast brethren have no more smarts than anyone else. To think you do is just proving the point I made about provincialism.

Your dum.

I thought we were talking football. While Yankees fans can be homers Giants & Jets fans are usually on the level.

Smartest = most opinionated big mouths

You'd be better off if I didn't think you actually believe that.

I'm starting to think you really live in New Mexico.

"Jets and Giants fans are usually on the level"  hahahahahahahahahaha

Your arrogance just soared to new heights.  I was ignorant to think there was a ceiling but you proved me wrong.

Yep! Welcome to the club!

This is hilarious.  Jets fans this year have been absolutely comical in their flip-flopping and knee-jerking.  One week they all hate Rex.  Next week they don't want to see him go. One week "we should be patient with Geno."   Next week.  "He's a bust - put in the 3rd stringer."

Giants fans have been walking around throwing their hands in the air in disbelief.  Some have turned on Eli.  Others on Coughlin or Reese.  At least they keep it together better than Jets fans - but that's saying basically nothing.

I know tons of Giants fans and most have endorsed one of the following situations to their QB play: "Play the guy from Syracuse see what he's got, Eli is on a downward spiral" and my personal favorite "Resign and start Carr he knows the offense and it can't be worse than #10"

You do know that just about any sports talk radio station in this country can be streamed online or over satellite, don't you? It's not like you're exposed to content we cannot access. When I surf around I hear a lot of nonsense. There is absolutely no evidence that the football fans in the northeast are any more knowledgeable or critical of their teams than what exists elsewhere, including the south.

Not only that, but if you consider message board fans, the hypothesis of east coast intelligence really crumbles. The jets mb is littered with Krayz type posters. The patriot MB is a wash with kool-aide drinkers.

The only type of link between football IQ and a fan's geographic location is a spurious one.

I've grew up in Philly. Lived in SF, LA, CT and Hawaii. I've lived here for the past 25 years. Although the most opinionated, they're probably, as a whole, the most knowledgeable. No slap in the face to southerners intended. Many of these people have NO life outside of their fandom. Many are basically true fanatics. Especially applies to many New Yorkers I've met. All they do is study and memorize. In the south, and Cali and Hawaii......there's so much to do.....there's no time to become a true fanatic. For instance, Hawaii could not support a team. People are outside doing fun stuff. Even LA with the 2nd biggest population has lost 2 NFL teams. Remember the character in the movie "Silver Linings" played by Robert DeNiro? What's funny about it is that that it is a true characterization of many fans up there. It's been passed from generation to generation. Don't you agree Mad Dog?
