Scheduled to make 8.25 MIL next season....he might be worth half that. Might.

Best TE on the roster, no might about it.

Right now Shorts is the best WR on the roster (with Blackmon in rehab)....so I guess then we should pay him what Megatron makes??....uh, because we have the cap room....???

Theres a thing called fiscal responsibility.
I didn't realize his cap hold was so large next season. For 8.25 million, he better be a 10 TD guy.

We have plenty of cap room, this team is the epitome of fiscal responsibility. What we don't have are plenty of good or even adequate players.

Its a bad deal, but all teams have a few overpaid players and its the contract he has. If its a choice between overpaying a motivated Marcedes Lewis or paying the right amount for Clay Harbor and Allen Riesner I know what I'd choose.
Best case scenario is Austin Seferian-Jenkins/Eric Ebron/Jace Amaro somehow falling to the second round, the Jaguars draft a young athletic TE and restructure Lewis's contract, if he isn't willing to do so then cut him,

Lately they have been making moves that have been fiscally responsible, I agree. So then why go backwards there by paying Marcedes over 8M next season? He's motivated NOW, because he fears getting cut and losing benjamins. If we bring him back a similar type of season is likely. Ineffective in the beginning, and then towards the end, he'll put up some TD numbers just to try and muddle the evaluation process.

Put up numbers just to muddle the process? Haha that tricksy 6'6 hobbitsis! He has been injured for half thee season, its not like he was out there dropping passes and missing blocks.

I think I used the wrong word too, he doesn't lack motivation, nobody who blocks as hard as him lacks motivation. If he has lacked anything in the past, its focus.

Its not just that he missed time to injury.....lets not act as if we haven't seen tons of passes bounce off of his eggos when he's been wide open over the course of the last 3 seasons (obviously less drops lately)

This is where you lose people. A lot of your thoughts hold merit, but you just do a terrible job of defending your points. You seriously think he just turns it on and off like a switch?

I think sometimes fans think players act as they would. I find it amusing that someone would think that a player, in a team game, could just decide to play better. For a salary drive or for whatever reason.

I guess there are some people who post here that would do that, but a pro in the NFL has every movement taped, and is seen in practice every day. And of course TMD and others are perfectly consistent in everything they do and never have good or bad days.

Yeah, football performance isn't dependent on a hundred variables. It's just how the player "feels". And Lewis obviously has waited until the last five or six games of the season to "feel" like playing.

Who knew we have a number of psychologists who post here.

Are you suggesting that there haven't been blatant examples of players in sports who just "happen" to have career seasons in contract years??

You're not that ignorant are you???

He is getting it done this year, as far as next year is concerned, thats pretty much all that matters.

They stole its from us....
It wouldnt be hard to give him a 2 year dummy extension to keep his cap hit low. Ill bet that is what ends up happening.

Are you saying you know which guys are "really trying" and which ones aren't? You're not that stupid, are you?

By your lazy way of thinking all great years would only be in contract years right? I guess Peyton Manning's contract is about to expire.

Beside the fact that M. Lewis isn't in a contract year (kind off exposes your ignorance, no?), I'm not presumptuous to know who is playing for what. You, on the other hand, obviously have a sort of x-ray vision that allows you to discern motivation.

You're a constant a source of amusement. You seem to think that in a team sport a player can convince all his teammate, coaches and ownership to gear everything to their personal achievement. I guess such players use the same methods that Jim Irsay used to convince everyone on the 2011 Colts to tank.

But they are so far under he cap, it doesn't really matter.

Not a contract year this year, but a threat to be outright released, Adum
