Quote:There's an NFL.com Ranking with the college Qbs and the person who made it thinks that all said and done after the combine and everything that he could end up being the first QB off the board because of this size and clutch factor which apparently NFL teams Covet. Tbh the more I read on him, and the more game film I watch I do like him.
Interesting.  Yes, I just watched 2 of his youtube highlight reels and came away impressed.  Will have to watch some cut-ups to know better - but he seems to have the necessary tools.   If he declares - I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him wind up a first rounder.
Quote:As much is i respect big ben, I don't think he's what the Jags are looking for. We're going for the future, and a 5 year stop gap would probably only hurt is in the long run.
maybe... but i wouldnt label him as only a stop gap... getting him while still drafting a QB could allow us to develop a young qb the right way rather than try and hit a home run with a Russel Wilson caliber player right off the bat... as appealing as it is to get one of those players, its still unlikely... big ben would offer a short to medium term solution that could still yield very big results.
Quote:It would hurt us only if they continued to ignore developmental QB in the draft at the same time.
spot on... thats what i was thinking as well... development is something that has worked alot more often than hitting on a instant starter

Edit: im taking note of this as one of the few times i completely agree with TMD lol

Quote:I'll root for the team and hope they improve the QB position.  Not that Henne is playing bad but he isn't exactly building up my confidence in his overall abilities.

Henne is playing bad.;

If we're going from a developmental standpoint and not talking about the players past or attitudes, I'd almost have to go with jay cutler to bring in and have a rookie sit behind. A lot of Big Ben's play is impromptu and you can't really teach that, you either have a knack for it or you don't. At least with cutler's "game" it's something that can be learned and taught.
Chad Henne is terrible.  Him and Gabbert need to both be gone next year.

Quote:Henne is playing bad.;
LOL yeah he is... i payed more attention to his throws from thursday when i rewatched the game.... while some were blatant drops like Brown in the endzone, he was off target on a couple throws that forced the receiver to adjust and not stay in stride... the guy is at his peak right now and its not very impressive... he is better than gabbert but that is not a complement in anyway lol.

good point... cutler is a very formidable candidate for this type of move... cutler is bad about taking big hits but he has sound mechanics so i would have to agree he is probably a better candidate to develop a pocket passing rookie.

Mr. Cardwell, get me a darn qb because I don't want gabbert, henne, or aj McCarron because he screams alex smith to me. Kahn already told him that we need someone to display our new scoreboard with next year and what's better than a new qb in the first round.

Yes, for the most part he is....

Thats what has me impressed with the job Bradley is doing. Its not easy to win 4 games in 5 attempts (I don't care who the opponent is) with QB of Henne's level.
Quote:whatever happens, I'm starting to have the feeling that we indeed will have options available. Its not as "bridgewater or bust" as I once thought.

I agree completely.. I was fine with Mariota but once he announced he was staying, I got worried but I'm starting to think I'd want Bortles over both of them. Most won't agree.. but he has that comeback swagger factor I love. He has the size, arm strength, athleticism... he is going to be a heck of a QB.
Someone like a Josh McCown(was he the one holding down the fort for Gabbert I can't remember), if he is a FA until your draft pick is deemed ready to play. I see you guys winning a few more games and dropping in the draft and taking someone like Johnny football, who will get tons of love in Jville.

I thought that was Luke McCown..but it could have been Josh.

Our McCown was Luke.
Happy to see more and more people jumping off the tanking bandwagon! Welcome Solid Snake, enjoying wins is what it's all about. I have no idea who will be our QB next year, nor will I pretend to have any clue who it should be, heck until 2 years ago I thought Gabbert would work out. All we can do is wait and see, hopefully they get the right guy but I'm sure it won't be Henne or Gabbert next year starting under center.

That would probably be the ONLY way I'd be upset about the QB situation if we sat put for another year.

Quote:Two words.

Ricky Stanzi.
I don't think it will be Cutler or Ben because of Caldwell's build thru the draft philosophy.  I also don't think he trades up.  I don't see Johnny Football as their kind of guy, so I think they'll take the best of Carr or Bortles.

Relevant to this discussion:  Derek Carr will be playing in about 3 and a half hours from now.  I'm looking forward to checking him out.

( I never get to watch college football all day and night on a Saturday - but I'm doing exactly that! )
Definitely starting to get on the Bortles bandwagon. Depending on how things go, seems like we would be drafting in the 6-10 range. I would be alright with taking him there. If we went the route that others are suggesting(sign a vet, draft a developmental QB) where do you feel James Franklin goes? mainly ask because he happens to be on tv right now.

other note, still kinda hyped on Carr

edit: welp, Franklin's accuracy could use some work

Franklin is decent, but I never see him being a starting QB in the NFL.
