There is a long ways before the draft.  Players often rise and fall from the top to the bottom.  I'm going to wait until it plays out.

why rob yourself of all the fun of speculating.
Quote:True, but I think the sudden surge in discussion feels like "We need someone new to speculate about."  I've seen him compared to Andrew Luck.  If he's that good, then yeah definitely would love to have him.  But I just wonder why he's been ignored for this long if he has that type of talent.  I don't care if you play for UCF or Erskine (which is no longer a college football school, but I like saying Erskine and it just sounds obscure) if you're that good I'd think analysts would be talking about you even if you were talking about declaring.
Oh yeah.  It is definitely prime "QB prospect bandwagon season" like nobody's business.  That factors in to much of  the discussion of Bortles and Carr around here, IMO.

Wasn't denying that aspect...    It'll be interesting to watch the whole scenario shake out in the pan.  Too many variables and unknowns for me to get overly involved.

I'm not one to fall in love with draft picks - but I'll be following some bowl games this year to learn more about 3 or 4 of these guys.

I'm telling you I need a bortles bandwagon signature, It'll be awesome, Tbh, we could throw his gf, manziel and his girls on it too and we'll be good to go

Quote:Two words.

Ricky Stanzi.

Honestly, I want Henne gone. He has been honestly playing the part of an descent QB to whom can manage the game. He's sometimes placed the ball exactly where it needs to be but he's also has shown his True Colors...

All and All... Henne isn't our Franchise QB of the future. Stanzi is a Big Question Mark, But, there's a reason that we acquired him. Let's see exactly what he brings to the table. Can he be a Better Game Manager than Henne?

Will Stanzi be our Franchise QB?

NH3...
I don't think it should be Henne.  I would offer Henne another similar deal to what he has now - backup money, and maybe have him start for the first few weeks until our rookie QB is ready.  And if our rookie just flatout beats him in camp - then by all means start the rookie.  I fully expect the rookie to be ready and good enough.

I think all this recent hype and expectations on drafting a 1st round QB and thinking they're starter material right out the gate has been drastically overemphasized in the last couple years.  Most of the good teams that have an elite QB he either sat behind another great qb, or took 3-4 years to develop.

oh, and just for the hell of it,

She has berry berry nice bortles.
In all honesty, I have my QB of choice, much like the rest of you.. But as long as the Jags do draft a QB, I don't care which QB it is.. As long as we don't go into next season with Henne or Gabbert as our #1..

Derek Carr. Done.
1. Eric Ebron TE North Carolina

2. David Yankey OG Stanford

3. David Fales QB SJSU

If you're so good why wait until the 3rd?
Quote:If he goes undrafted, she dumps him.
Leaving me to swoop in and woo her....
We just need to keep drafting qb's yearly till we have great qb depth

You homers need to jump off the Blake Bortles bandwagon.  He is slow, indecisive, terribly inaccurate, has horrible mechanics (Slow Tebow throwing motion) and a turnover machine.  The only reason why he has to come back in game is because he isn't productive and puts him team into a hole.  I'm sorry but when you can't even dominate in the weak [BAD WORD REMOVED] AAC and don't possess any elite QB qualities, you're probably not going to be a very good NFL QB.

Videos showing his noodle arm.  He's not very impressive throwing downfield.  Everything is short.

Well, if the season would end today, we'd be picking between 5-9. If we win next week, we could be picking 10-13. With Houston, Minnesota, Cleveland, Tampa and, possibly Oakland taking QBs before us, which QBs might be left for us?
Quote:The "culture of winning" is a complete [BAD WORD REMOVED] argument if you ask me. You get better as a team by getting talented players, and good coaching. We have the coaching, now we need the talent.

Winning games this year has no effect at all on what happens next year.

No it has all the effect on it.   Being i actually played football.   I know a great season or turn into a great ending carries over mentally with players minds.   You think if continued to lose after the buy.   The guys would not think negatively about things?    Yea they are paid professionals.  But at the end of the day they are still humans.   That kind of stuff ill most defiantly carry over.

Quote:What do you guys think of Blake Bortles?

McShay says he's the second best QB in the draft. Here is an article on him:

Might be an acceptable mid rounder.
i don't like carr very much either, He works from the shotgun too much for my taste and stares down his primary read far too much. If he feels the pressure just launches it deep to that read and hopes. It comes off alot against those weaker opponents but do that against and nfl cornor, it's a 3 way split pick ,batted, big catch. I don't like the odds

I haven't seen bortles so can't comment but i feel we need a more polished qb and worry we will do what we did to gabbert and crush a developmental qb.

Myself I like david fales, he seems to have a low ceiling but of all the qbs at the moment I feel like he and teddy bridgewater are the most pro ready. I reckon he could walk into this offense and march us down the field for a score. Though he has struggled somewhat he currently runs quite a pro style offense and reads the coverage very well and i think he has one of the most accurate arms around.

his pocket presence is excellent and though he can't run it he moves well enough for our purpose

His problem is a lack of a big arm so he can't do a flacco and heave it deep but between 1-15 yards he has pretty lovely placement and touch and i think on slants with big play makers like sanders mjd robinson and even lewis who can all make yards after catch he could us proud.

Added nfl conditioning and a bit more muscle and he might start to find that deep ball. For a third I think he is a snip and if we go barr in the first

swanson (centre) in the second and fales in the third I will be delighted

Hopefully it's Bridgewater, Carr, Bortles, or Fales.  Whoever it is, he needs to be able to start day one.  Get as many reps in training camp and preseason as possible.  No more of this "competition at the QB" stuff.  If you're going to start the new times, get the guy and give him as much of an opportunity to win and learn the playbook as possible.

This past offseason with the back and forth of Gabbert and Henne and this season with Gabbert always getting hurt and Henne sucking has really made it so I don't want a competition at QB.
