I seriously doubt he comes back next year as our backup. I mean, why? It would make more sense to bring Henne back as a backup that Gabbert. I bet we just cut him and move on.
To call his NFL career over is way too far preemptive.. Some team will pick him up and try to "re-teach" him how to play qb.
He should be okay with his $12M.
Quote:Absolutely. His confidence is shot as an NFL QB.
People use the excuse that he was thrown into the deep end too early to be a starting QB. When you are drafted at #10, you are expected to play right away. Gabbert fooled a lot of people at Mizzou because the Jags aren't the only people who had high grades on him.
You are confusing expectations with reality.

Agreed if we bring anyone back as a backup it will be Henne, for what he lacks in talent he has leadership and the work ethic you'd want a rookie to mimic. What about Gabbert would we possibly want our next QB to learn?
Quote:Someone will. He's big, strong, has great mesurables, and still has potential.
Measurables are nice, they generate a lot of buzz at the combine. They just don't mean much after the ball is snapped.

Gene Smith wasn't the only one that fell in love with Gabbert when he was in college. Somebody who did will remember that and take a shot at molding him into a NFL QB.
I'd guess his days in JAX are done. Some team will take a shot on him.
If they cut him I'm sure some team will pick him up for a year or two after that he's likely done.
Blaine Gabbert is the future VOICE OF THE JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS!
He never belonged in the NFL. Hope he saved his money.
I remember people saying Gabbert gave this team the best chance to win. Alfie in particular made a point to make that statement. Why anyone ever felt this way boggles my mind.

He can join Matt Jones on his sports talk radio show in Arkansas.

Perfect hindsight vision.. No glasses needed for you..

Seriously, just stop. He's done as far as starter prospect is concerned. What's more to see that people haven't already saw over the past 2 1/5 years?
Why would any GM/coach want to take a chance at fixing him when there are ample of young prospect coming out of college?
New England will pick him up and he'll break all of Tom Brady's records. Gabbert could thrive with a good team around him.
Quote:I'm conflicted. On the one hand I want him to redeem his career and turn out as a fine starting NFL quarterback. On the other hand, I don't because it would almost certainly mean he'd be playing for another team, and it would be just the Jaguars luck to release Gabbert only for him to become a starter somewhere else.
I wouldn't worry about that...
Probably I do think he could be better with a better supporting cast

I am guessing you were watching all his games without your very strong glasses if you didn't know this when he was playing

Have you seen the Jags' luck the past few seasons?
