Quote:The light is not coming on.  It never was even sparking.  Gabbert it what he is and that is a younger Henne.

FTFY.
Quote:We will just have to disagree about him being in the league in more than 2 years. I do agree that he got even worse, but the thing was, he never was good. His badness was masked by the coaches telling him to just 'don't make mistakes.'  Gus let him actually show what he had, and it wasn't good. He doesn't have the intangibles, the decision-making, whatever you want to call it. Do I think that timeline could get longer if Gabb's went to someone like Andy Reid? Sure, the man works miracles. But just about anybody else, and yeah, hes gone in 2 years.

I thought about that too, if Gabbert were to be coached by a genius QB coach, to see if he'll improve. But then I realized, why would someone like Andy Reid waste his time when there are so much better QBs coming out from college who are even better than Gabbert and does not take a complete overhaul. Unless he just wants to prove to himself that he can turn a disaster to something good, and Gabbert were to play basically for free

I never said anything about longer than 2 years.  He will get his shot at improvement, here or on another team.

I just disagree with the guys that say he's out of the league after this year.  Slim chance of that.

Im not so sure. Usually when a guy sticks around the leage ala Kitna , Garrard , Carson Palmer , etc they prove themselves to be solid Qbs on a team and as having the ability to battle adversity as you'd want in a veteran QB. Gabbert has done neither and possesses none of the leadership , study habits (at least it doesnt show on the field) and certainly not the mental makeup to fight for a job week on week year in and year out as most backups do.
I dont think his career ever started.  I wish him the best but it doesnt look like its going to happen here

Doesn't matter. He's young.

Did you realize Trent Edwards was still playing in the league last season?

Did you realize Luke McCown is still in the league? Remember what he looked like as a starter here a couple of years ago?
Gabbert career been over since last year! He is not a winner and no team is gonna take a chance on him again after he has proven that he just cant win in this league.

Guys stick around for two reasons. Either they're a safe pair of hands you can rely on to come in for a game or two because your starter is out and give the team a fighting chance, or they're a player you still hope will develop and play to their potential in a new environment.

The examples you give are all from category #1. Gabbert, to put it generously, isn't.

I have no idea as to Gabbert's future, and no one on this board does either.

But these kinds of posts always amuse me. As if you have a clue regarding Gabbert's ability to battle adversity (whatever that means). And we're supposed to think you have some idea as to his leadership skills and his study habits?

Perhaps your post speaks more to your mental makeup than his. Do you at least play as psychologist on television?

It seems to me that Gabbert has always given his best and acted as a professional. No whining or moaning and groaning. Something some in the fan base could learn from.

Shutup.

And you prove his point!
His regression this season in the St. Louis and Indy games was really hard to watch.  I don't think there is some miraculous turnaround on the horizon.  He just isn't going to figure out how to operate in the pocket.  It can't possibly take this long and suddenly "click."  Not when it looked so bad - then got worse in the last two games he played.

Will a team take a flier on him as a possible back-up and let him try to earn a spot in camp next year?  Probably.

Leadership skills would come in the form of the team coming to life and playing hard when he's in not appearing to lose the will to live as we have seen. When gabbert plays the entire offense seems to sulk around and not care. I can only call what i see on the field true but what i see is receivers staring him down and throwing up their arms in frustration after he misses then or just doesnt even look their way (both shorts and Blackmon have done this to gabbert multiple times). I see offensive lineman that seem far from interested in anything he has to say and then blocking harder for Henne. He displays zero confidence standing in the pocket and at the first sign of trouble no matter how well he has played until that point he shuts down and bombs for the rest of the game. That ties directly into the ability to fight back (aka battle adversity). Some QBs can follow a sack with a 30 yard dart in the face of the very same pass rusher who sacked him moments beofre. Gabbert? Crumble and take the sack or roll out and then take a sack.

With his play style (jittery and craven) do you really think he's a good leader and that the other guys in the locker room are behind him?

Study habits would show on the field in the form of consistency and making the correct reads in defenses. 2 things he is atrocious at. He has been shown this year and last to not even see wide open receivers and somehow throw into bad coverages (St.Louis game for example). Yeah great study habits and film room work right there.

I can understand some of his mistakes but when he is consistently this bad and has to be held in check to avoid making horrid mistake after horrid mistake it speaks volumes. The kid just doesnt get it and we were fooled.

Sorry for the long post.

Without doubt he'll find a team that will look at his measurables and take a chance on him as a developmental project. He's too young to think it won't happen.

That St Louis game disturbed me, too. He had a few good throws in it, but after Joeckel went down it was like whatever fuse that was causing his lightbulb to flicker finally burnt out and he was horrific.
It's not too amazing to see good QB play when he's on a good team. Rob Johnson looked very good filling in for Brunell but terrible once he went to Buffalo. Gabbert will find work somewhere, but I pity the new kid coming in.

Regards.....................the Chiefjag

back up......maybe he can pull an Alex Smith......that would be an optimistic scenario
nah-nah

hey hey ....good bye

To be fair to Luke McCown, he had a decent game against the Titans. Then had a horror show against the Jets and never played again as a starter. He wasn't exactly given the opportunities that Henne and Gabbert have been afforded.

He used to look way better in the preseason than Henne or Gabbert too

Alex Smith generally improved season to season, and he showed some stuff occasionally. Blaine Gabbert took a huge nosedive this season. I don't think Smith ever had anything near a 1TD to 7INT ratio.

I used to serve on the Grammar and Spelling Police Task Force, but I resigned out of frustration. You and your kind may inspire me to re-enlist.

Shut up is two words, and those two words by themselves do not constitute an insightful thread contribution. There's a message board rule addressing this very point. Please keep that in mind when posting in the future.
