WOOHOO!
Id keep Uche and Allen and cut Blaine along with them

Tim Tebow 10 million a year contract

Quote:Monroe eats up a big chunk.

Bridgewater eats up a sizable chunk (Luck got $22.1M over 4 years)

The second round pick eats up about $1M in cap space

He will sign some other small or moderately small pieces in areas of need and we'll reach the $20M before you know it.

I'm thinking a decent guard and Tate will be the big signings. There isn't going to be Orakpo in our future; you're dreaming.

No, we wouldn't sign an Orakpo if we didn't make the extra 17 million in cuts like I said.

If our intentions were to only spend to the 20 million we could still extend Monroe and Shorts, sign our draft class, sign Tate, an interior lineman, and probably 1 more mid lvl free agent.

Or you could do something similar to what I wrote and spend to the cap and then have over 20-30 million under the cap the following year to boot.

To each his own, but I think my idea gets us better, faster.
I could see the team signing a pass rusher like Greg Hardy or an interior lineman. But the OP is crazy if he thinks that his scenario is realistic.

It's definitely possible. Likely? Probably not.

Many don't understand just how good of a situation we are in. We have expansion team flexibility with a few nice pieces already in place and the likely number 1 pick. What Dave Caldwell did was absolutely the right idea. Finishing the gut job next season should be priority number 1.
There has been a " big free agecy" prediction thread every year. Just sayin.

Because we've been 30 million under the cap, but that didnt include huge chunks of dead money. This year we have almost no cap space because of the 27 million in dead money. We were talking about spending the cap carryover mostly when we thought we were a lot closer to being competitive.

We arethe NBA equivalent of a team with an ascending young player, the #1 pick, and a team full of expiring contracts.
Greg Hardy and Brian Orakpo hitting the free market...LOL is the only thing that comes to mind. Hardy is a young, already elite DE. If Carolina was stupid enough to let Hardy hit the market (they won't) he will very likely command the largest DE contract in NFL history so your 8 mil/yr number is even more LOL than the thought of him hitting the open market in the first place.

But other than that it's a great idea. Oh wait 31 other teams exist too and might not let us get every impact FA available? Well darn, I guess we just might have to build through the draft and patch responsibly through FA, ya know just like the GM is on record as saying will happen.

Hoping for some interior OL and maybe a LB or CB in free agency next year. Teddy will help keep the offense on the field, which in turn will help out the defense and not wear down the leg of the great Bryan Anger!!!

I understand the mentality of building through the draft but they better spend money in FA to rebuild this HORRIBLE interior O-Line.

Largest DE contract in NFL history? You think he's getting 100 million?

Hey FreeAgent01 --- that was a really good post.  Instead of offering opinions without substance, you supported your comments with factual data.   While some people may pick apart bits and pieces of the post, overall I thought this was one of the best posts that I've seen in addressing our upcoming draft & free agency options.

Personally, if we can get Mack and Smith on the interior of our OL, I'd be happy.

One name that will be interesting to see is Ben Tate. His situation is similar to Michael Turner, who Caldwell had in Atlanta.

Speaking of Turner, did he fall off the face of the earth or something?

Absolutely I think he will. He's every bit as good as Mario Williams was when he hit FA, he's a lot younger, no injury history, and it's a couple years later. FA contracts generally always inflate a bit year after year.

I don't see it. If I'm not mistaken, Mario Williams already had strung together more seasons of better production. Assuming Hardy continues to be pace this year, that only gives him two years of good, but not elite production. Williams had four or five good seasons, with one or two where he was absolutely dominant.

I think it's more likely he gets a deal similar to the one Charles Johnson got a few years back.

You are nuts. See Cliff Avril.
I thought we had a separate "fantasy" form? Mods????

I think the OP has some of the right idea....

However, he's underestimated what some of those FA will get and he's also overestimated the volume of big name FA's that Jax will sign or be able to get....

That said, I'd love an Alex Mack signing. It would be a perfect bridge from Meester.

A Greg Hardy signing would also be a good move.

I wouldn't bother with the rest, including Ben Tate. Instead, for RB I'd try to trade for Bryce Brown instead. The Eagles aren't likely to keep all 3 RB, and Polk has made Brown expendable. Brown was drafted for a 7th rounder so he'll obviously fetch more of a return than that, but I think the Jags could get him in exchange for a 3rd rounder/ maybe 4th. (since our pick is so high). I think Brown would be a great get for us, and I like the fact that he's got more size than Ben Tate.

Adding Mack, Hardy and Brown to the roster for next year as well as a draft that includes Bridgewater could really make this team start to take off by late in the year for 2014 - once everything starts to gel.
