Quote:It saves 2 million dollars for a marginal starter who should be a backup, despite PFF annointing him the best 4-3 OLB in the world.
Allen has been solid and our best LB.  He isn't great but he is solid.  I don't see us cutting him, you wont find a better LB for 2 mil.

I'm not overly eager to get rid of him. He's not grossly overpaid nor overly expensive. Saving 2 million for a player who isn't part of the future isn't a bad idea though.

2M for a versatile backup LB who can play pretty well is a good deal. You need those type of guys on the roster.

On the subject of FA, I can see us giving out a couple big contracts in FA this year. Probably an OL and a LEO.

Cecil might get an extension too.

lol, cmon man.  I can see if the guy is a bum but if they aren't playing bad why cut them?  Makes no sense to me.  Whatever you say

Did you watch the rams game?   He actually played really well.   Even if he becomes the #4 LB next year - his salary isn't really that much.

The Jags are gonna have plenty of FA money without needing to cut him.  Of course - he'll need to turn in a few more good performances to stick.
I'm just saying its unlikely he's resigned after next season. Why not save the 2 million from his 2.4 million next year and use it towards a player who may be a part of the future. Either way, its not big enough of an issue to matter much either way.

And Daryl Smith is playing at veteran minimum for a little more than half of what Allen makes. There are veterans looking for jobs that can do the same job as him. Or UDFA's. I mean, Allen was one himself.
