Jags are by far less talented than the Browns, Bucs, Steelers, Vikings, etc.  No real doubt that we'll be getting the 1st overall pick.

Quote:I am guessing Cleveland is really trying to stockpile draft choices this year, in the effort to get "their" QB. I am thinking they have their eye on Bridgewater since their current regime prefers a QB with ability to connect downfield routinely.

Should the Jags be countering this with by shopping Cecil? He's the same NFL experience i.e. 2 years, and is probably similar to Gordon in ability, if not a bit less.

If the Jags miss out on Bridgewater because of all the Cleveland stockpiling of draft choices, will it have been worth it to not have tried to stockpile our own draft choices? Our team is probably in worse roster shape than Clevelands is, and Cleveland apparently has no problem still trading young players away.

Why do we hold onto ours like they are gold or something, despite our team sucking for years??

We never seem to stockpile draft choices and instead always play it safe and steady and all we do is never improve.
Because good players ARE gold, TMD. That's exactly what they are. I usually can agree with you on most things, but Cecil doesn't have anywhere near the trade value compared to how valuable he is to the team.

Here's a better question; at what point do you stop trading away developed talent, and simply keep them and let them play? Cecil is young enough to be apart of future plans. Trading him will not be the catalyst of whether we land Bridgewater or not.

Being young doesn't make a good team. Being good makes a good team.
We get it. You don't want to admit you're wrong about "The Robot", so you'd like to see him gone.

There is 0% chance he's traded. 0.

There's also close to a 0% chance that we get anything but the first pick in this draft. We could hardly score on the Oakland Raiders, what makes you think we can beat anybody? You said if the Browns trade away Gordon, they will only have Cameron and we'll "blanket" him; when's the last time we blanketed anybody? Newsflash: We can't even score! Our yards per play is the lowest since the 1920s.

We haven't had receivers since the days of Thunder & Lightning and now when we have them, people want to ship them off. Blows my mind.

Since when has doing what Cleveland does become a smart idea?

You do realize Cleveland is stockpiling in order to trade with us.

No need to trade Shorts. We will probably be facing a situation where we can have a whole bunch of draft picks if we choose.

The Jags have had a need for a WR since Jimmy Smith retired... first round bust after first round bust trying to find one... now they have a very promising and young WR and someone wants to trade him... that's about par for the course...

This is the question I have. Cleveland is now being offered up as a franchise to emulate? Alrighty then.
There are four other 0-3 teams. Not including us. bucs, giants, Vikings, redskins
On topic not house hold name won't get first round pick.
After all these years of trying to find a competent receiver, some of you guys want to trade him away?

The simple fact that this thread exists is enough for me to realize that this fanbase has lost its frickin mind.

I understand TMDs take that the QB should make the WR and not the other way around but if we do trade CS3 we are stuck finding a #2 across from Blackmon anyways and as others have said it would be nice for Bridgewater/Hundley/Mariota etc to get here and have 2 nice competent experienced playmakers to throw to right off the bat instead of Blackmon ,Sanders and a rookie.

Adding a playmaking TE would give the new QB a wealth of options in the passing game helping all areas of developement.

Maybe next year let shorts walk or attempt a trade and then take a big WR in the draft to be possession and redzone while Blackmon handles the mid range and Sanders handles the underneath. If he gets hurt well that sucks but you cant manage a team scared of losing a player and keep taking away from a position just to have to replace it anyways.

Either way Shorts needs to stay for the next QB up but i wouldnt extend him this year as another poster has suggested. Wait till next year and see what shakes down IMO.

If Josh Gordon wasn't one slip up away from a year long suspension, do you think the Browns would be shopping him? No, the dude looks like he's going to be an elite talent.

If Trent Richardson wasn't a bruising RB, would the Browns trade him away? No, Browns want to build the team with the pass in mind, and Richardson doesn't fit.

Cecil is a good player, no off the field issues, no concussion related problems thus far, and fits with the direction our offense should be headed,  so why would we trade him for anything less than a 1? If Detroit wants to send a 1 our way, I say we need to give it some thought, though.

Hard to believe there's six pages of discussion about this.
Quote:Apples to oranges. You cannot spell Brady without a Belicick. While we are puppy loving our cheerleader coach, he is not a molecule in Coach B's universe. So I guess that is my way of telling you bad example.

As a realist I know we have the 1st and 33rd pick in the draft where we select Teddy and a bad boy defensive BAP.

My point being the Shorts, Blackmon and Bridgewater  feature would be  super bowl caliber  weaponry. That kid would sling the rock all day on anybody given that duo.

Well, to be accurate....if the Jags get the 1st pick, they wouldn't also have the 33rd....if you remember, we had the 33rd this past draft while having the 2nd overall pick in the 1st round. They alternate teams by 1 spot back & forth each round.

Once you have acquired "the QB".

Since the current administration took over for them. I think they've made good decisions for the most part, coach/ GM etc etc since the ownership change took hold. Its not the same people/ owner as all those recent Browns' teams.
The Browns are not shopping Gordon, Little or any other players at the current time. Chud came out two days ago and explained the situation. There was a false report circulated on cleveland.com by Mary Kay Cabot stating that Little and Gordon were being shopped but it was reported as inaccurate by Chud. Since then there have been numerous posts on the Browns website explaining the TR trade. One post explains all the trades that Trader Joe Banner made for the Eagles and they appear to have been good decisions. TR is over rated and the whole Predator dread deal and saluting the crowd got old and he pouted when he didn't get enough carries to keep him happy. The Browns are way ahead of the Jags at this point in time; D line, LB corps, TE, even QB, WRs (WRs when not in trouble or suspended). But all teams draw from the same talent pool. I've spent about half my life in Fla and half in Ohio. I was a Dolfan back in the 70s when I lived down there. I have been looking a local team to supplement my frustrating Browns but the Jags, man, they stink. The other problem is they're leaving! Last one out, turn out the lights, the plane is leaving for London. How to care about a team that has one foot out the door?

London is not getting a permanent NFL team. It would be a logistical nightmare.

Oh, and well, gee....Chud actually came out and said that the trade rumors weren't true....well shucks,...thats all I need ta hear, ga-heelt... Hey Cletus, fetch me some of that good stuff from grandpa's medicine cabinet....

LOL!! what naive crap above. Its called "coach speak". You really think the Browns are going to come right and verbally admit that Gordon is on the block? He has to deny it. To admit he's on the block only decreases his value.

They only alternated picks because the Chiefs and Jags had the same record. I project the Jags will have the overall #1 free and clear with the worst record in the league not tied for worst. Do you even make an effort to be accurate or are you just inducing convo?

TROLLOL!

You read too much ProFootballTalk
Quote:That makes no sense at all to me, the idea is to improve the roster with young talent. Why would we trade one of the only young talents we have on the team?

We're probably going to end up with the 1st pick anyways, so we have the choice take all of Cleveland stockpiled picks (fine with me) or take the player of our choosing (also fine with me)

Agreed completely.

Any QB we obtain next year will need weapons at his disposal.  Even though Shorts may ultimately be best off as a 3rd WR, he has been productive enough where he is and young enough to consider him a weapon for a young QB to have.  When you consider Blackmon is one slip up away from being suspended for a year, trading away Shorts could further hamstring the development of any young QB if that suspension should occur.  A pick that could be allocated to the interior OL and building a team around our new signal caller would be wasted trying to replace a young, developed and productive WR.
