So, basically really weak data. Forget college performance it does not add any value to your claim. What pro games specifically and you know damn well that any receiver with no talent on the other side will not perform as well otherwise.

He did a pretty good job of being Weedens only go to guy in college.

He has also been shown to draw consistent double teams and i dont think its any coincidence that Shorts hasnt done much this year in the 1st half of games when teams are working hard to lock him down. I have to agree with TMD on this one.

Shorts 2nd half so far:16 recs 231 yds

Shorts 1st half so far: 3 res 45 yards.

4th quarter : 12 rec 160 yards More than the other 3 quarters combined.

Also Blackmons physical play style is much less reliant on open space and certain matchups needing to be created. He doesnt need to be schemed into a big play tricking the safety or need various complimentary routes. In Basketball terms Shorts is the definition of a spot up shooter who needs a good PG and C to suck away defenders for open 3s whereas Blackmon is the type of player who can create his own shot when needed.

You can line Blackmon up anywhere on the field and run any route against any type of CB, LB or S and expect him to win the matchup.
Everyone has a price, but I'd want something pretty good for CS3, you dont just trade him for the sake of it.

Did Shorts steal your lunch money in high school or something?

A top 5 WR better be better than 4th round pick.  But Shorts is still good, and Shorts hasn't played all that poorly without Blackmon either.  Especially considering who he has as a starting QB.  And Justin Blackmon is still one bad decision away from being suspended for a season.

Do you really think Tom Brady doesn't miss Wes Welker? Sure he's 3-0 right now.  But so is Alex Smith. Eli Manning on the other hand is 0-3.

Quote:I think Shorts benefited from the presence of Blackmon on the field.

Has Shorts played the same as last year for these last 3 games without Blackmon to take defenses focus away?

Blackmon doesn't need to have "that guy" opposite him to produce, he will regardless. I am not sure that Shorts can without that presence on the opposite side.

You're right, Shorts was the guy making all the plays yet the defenses were keying in on a rookie who for most of the first half of the season was doing absolutely nothing. You've got it backwards, Blackmon benefited from Shorts being on the other side.. Before Shorts was starting Blackmon did nothing.

Aside from his miraculous 200 yard game, he was getting around 40 per game and even had a couple terrible games like: 24 yards vs min, 0 against hou (first match) 7 against indy (Shorts caught the 80 yard game winner) 7 yards against oakland 25 against indy the second time and 9 against the Bills.

Cecil in 10 starts recorded 4 100+ yard games, 7 of which were over 70 yards. Cecil is without a doubt the best WR on our roster until Blackmon proves otherwise and to this point he has not.

Oh and I forgot to mention Shorts had 7 TD's

Blackmon came into the league with a lot of hype and rightfully so, given his production/ play in college. He was a very high pick. I think you are kidding yourself if you don't think coaches/ defenses didn't focus on Blackmon over Shorts last year, thus benefiting Shorts.

As said....look at the first 3 games this year with no Blackmon...has Shorts' play been the same as last year? I don't think so. Most of his production Sunday was in garbagetime with Seattle defending long as they were up by 100.
I love them both

Blackmon won't mess up again. Reason? He would be bankrupt. He lost 10 million dollars. He needs money.
The answer is no, just no.

None of this Blackmon>Shorts business makes trading Shorts any less of a dumb idea.

Garbage time or not... you still have to produce to get those yards... the way you talk about Shorts he would be lucky to get the yards he does against a high school football team...
LOL, NO

Quote:I love them both

Nonsense. You must pick sides and argue!!!
Quote:Look, if it works out that the Jags can still get Bridgewater, and still have Shorts & Blackmon on the roster then, yeah, I'd be thrilled with that..

I am just trying to do whatever we have to do to ensure that we get Teddy, because I think he has the kind of ability plus football smarts & work ethic to be a special QB in this league.  As long as the Jags land Teddy....whether Shorts is still here or not isn't as important....Teddy will make his replacement effective.

To take it further....

add in development by Ace Sanders, and then he's your "T.Y. Hilton" cog of the offense for Bridgewater. The only thing missing would be the playmaking/ yards in chunks receiving TE - which Marcedes will never be. I'd like for the Jags to find their version of Jimmy Graham/ Witten/ Julius Thomas/ etc etc.
But do you really think trading away Cecil will be the catalyst on whether we land Bridgewater or not? I don't think it increases our chances. This is one of the worst teams in NFL history already and it's not even week 8 yet. We will be lucky to win one game, and I think 3-13 will be good enough for the #1 pick, but I'm expecting us to go well under that.

I don't like Ace Sanders playing wide. I think those two spots are reserved for the biggest, best receivers you can find, and we've shown how hard it is to find one with our draft history the past 10 years.
I understand the logic.....trade one now to get more later.

this year is a dump...so trade the guy(s) we have to have more picks for the draft and get all kinds of players.

But it just doesn't feel right.

Vote NO

All draft picks are just a gamble. So my answer remains no. A 305 may feel like a Marlboro when have no money or smokes. But it isn't a Marlboro not even close.
What if we get the #1 pick and Teddy throws a Eli Manning hissy fit and refuses to come here?

Teddy B is a class act. He's the kind of guy who accepts a challenge and will do everything do lay it all out on the field.

I still like Shorts. His concussions weren't flukes either, both of them were illegal hits with no penalties because he's a Jag. Robinson on the other hand, his concussions were selfinflicted by diving onto his head. With a better QB, Shorts is easily breaking 1K a season

What you must remember is TMD went all-in on Shorts being a bust. Even advocating for him to be cut last preseason. He was went all-in and lost big time. Now he goes out of his way to downplay any success that Shorts has.
