If that list doesn't represent a lack of talent, I don't know what does..... Just one thing missing... BB5INT.. you're next!!!
If the likely scenario plays out and Bortles is just ok or bad this season then I wouldn't hate to see them get in the Brees sweepstakes or draft something like:
QB
OL
OL
QB
In the unlikely scenario Bortles lights it up I still think you consider someone like Brees if they are available but draft something like:
DL/OL
DL/OL
OL
QB
Notice teams like GB and NE haven't really needed a QB in well over a decade but they still grab one in the middle rounds every few years.

That's not how the cap works.
There'll be a lot of money off the books next year and the cap will increase...
I think we'll be in a fine position to sign Cousins/Brees/Smith and draft a guy in the first or second.
Even if Bortles does work out, we should draft a QB in the top 3 rounds.

Of that list, I would consider Tom Savage, Chase Daniel, Austin Davis, Drew Stanton and the loser of the Sam Bradford/Teddy Bridgewater battle in Minnesota (assuming Bridgewater can still play and we can afford either him or Bradford.)
I'm not a big believer in stashing QB's on the PS. That means they either aren't good enough to stick with a team or they are good enough for another team to snag them. PS QB's are just there to run the drills. I'd rather keep 3 good QB's on the active roster when that is a real position of need, over any other position. If we take a QB early in the draft and another one in the late rounds, we still have plenty of picks to address the O-Line. All of our needs are not gonna get addressed in one draft anyway. We need to prioritize.
your math doesn't include cap carryover or league wide increase.
They can cut two dead weight contracts and sign a vet QB to a big contract next year if they want to.
I got my numbers from Overthecap.com

Which is weird because the Offense/Defense/ST breakdown numbers change very little, if at all from 2017 to 2018. Something is off on that page. In fact, it shows $7 million less in cap liabilities in 2018 compared to 2017

Sportstrac.com showed us $4 million over the cap in 2018.

We haven't determined how much roll over cap we will use for next season, therefore OTC and other sites aren't accounting for it yet. We still have the cut to 53 and in season signings that will change the amount of cap we'll have to roll over. Rest assured, that ~40 million in cap space will be included.

Yeah. I don't think that figure is accurate.
The Jags should have that much + the Albert retirement, plus 12-17 mil in carryover, plus the inevitable league wide cap increase.
I agree and was just thinking the same thing. If you were "lucky" enough to find 2 franchise QBs then you just keep the better one and trade away the other guy.
My other question is...assuming we win 5-6 games this season and screw up our draft position. How much do we throw at moving up in the draft to get a franchise QB (if we are picking around 10)? We've been a decade without making the playoffs and arguably haven't had a franchise QB since Brunell (Garrard was a great game manager but couldn't put the team on his back alone).
I think Coughlin should consider using whatever draft picks/equity necessary to get a franchise QB, no matter the cost. Because the alternative is another 3-5 years of losing football.
Thoughts?

That's why I'd like to accumulate draft picks. In case we need to move up in the draft to get "our guy", I want to have all the ammunition we can. If we want to get to the next level, we cannot be without a good QB. We have to do whatever it takes to get the right QB in here and given the price of trading up in the last few drafts, that can be steep. I hate trading up, but when you need a franchise QB, you do what you gotta do.
Draft 5 Quarterbacks. You're bound to hit on at least one.
Something tells me that tomorrow, Jag's braintrust will be closely reviewing tape on Brett Hundley's performance tonight. Barring injury to Rodgers, it's the last time we'll see him in action this season. Depending on how things shake out here, we may well see this guy in a Jaguars uniform next season. (or sooner).

I think there is some talent on there. Especially when all we will be needing is a placeholder. The one guy I have always liked is Chase Daniel. I would trust him to come in and give us a fighting chance in games until a rookie QB is ready to go. I think he could surprise some people. I would also be comfortable with Tom Savage, Austin Davis and to a slightly lesser extent, Drew Stanton. I think Teddy Bridgewater would be intriguing, if he were healthy and Sam Bradford would be an ideal placeholder, depending on how much it would cost us. It's not like we're going to need a superstar. Hopefully, the guy we draft will fill that future role.

This.
We have almost 40 mil in rollover left over. And that wont include the inevitable veteran cut or two that will free up even more money.

There are 4 QBs (at least) coming out in the draft next year better than Hundley
