Quote:I forgot about Kirk, might be the only intriguing option and thats not a great option either tbh.

But in an ideal world if you could get Josh Mcdaniels offense in here with kirk and establish a dominant run game(Hello leonard fournette) to take the ball out of kirks hands we might have a respectable foootball team.

I don't think that much of cousins. Doesn't scream SB winning QB to me.
Quote:Look man, even when he played well last year he was turning the ball over wayyyyy too much. Without even looking I'm absolutely sure he's led the league in turnovers over the last 3 years, or at least damn close. There's no fixing Bortles. That release might could get sped up a bit, but there's no way he's going to be able to fix his problems in time to be kept around here as a franchise QB. The ship has sailed on Bortles.

Unfortunately this looks to be true.

Bortles had his career year last year and it was wasted on a 5-11 season.

When I look around the league and see the other QBs, and then I see Bortles windup and throw a very wobbly and inaccurate pass, it makes me wonder if it can ever be fixed completely.
Quote:The only people that could in any way make sense for a romo trade are the Jets and Broncos. But even then, the jets team is pretty young and is on the way to a top 10 pick, and the broncos just dropped a first on Paxton Lynch. Besides the fact that neither of their cap situations could fit Romos contract, Id think theyd rather keep their picks and money intact and just build toward the future. Neither are really teams that have expiring talent and a closing windown imo.

The reason why I believe the Jets might go the illogical path is that owner Woody Johnson is impulsive.  They absolutely should hold on to their draft picks,  especially after investing in 2 QBs in the top 4 rounds of the last two drafts.   But Johnson could easily overrule his football people.   Then they would have to restructure Tony Romo's contract but it's the type of short term move that Johnson might make to get headlines in the largest market in the U.S.   Especially,  since the Jets share the same market with the Giants,  the more popular team.

I can't imagine a scenario in which John Elway mortgages the future from the standpoint of giving up a high draft pick for a QB with Tony Romo's age and history.  .

I dont think much of him either but i dont think winning a super bowl is way out of reach for him within an absolutely ideal scenario (good scheme/defense/run game)
Quote:If we hire McDaniels, we'd likely get Brissett before Jimmy G, being he'd be easier to acquire and also had scheme familiarity. Is he a starter in this league ? I'm not sure.

For what it's worth,  Bill Parcells is high on Jacoby Brissett.    This in addition to the Patriots organization investing a 3rd Round pick on him.

Well, which QB out there and available does?

Heck, we just need a QB to win some games and challenge for the dismal AFCS.
im not high any options at all, especially not one where the best case scenario is kirk cousins but these are the options

Unless we wanna talk 2017/2018 draft but this is the wrong section for that.
Romo is trash.
You play Blake, see what he does with a real staff around him, and if he sucks we draft Lamar Jackson
Quote:Yep and despite the fact that Brady says he intends on playing for a while, they likely see him as an heir apparent.

There were some football type of people who thought he was the best QB prospect in the 2014 Draft.   I believe one of them was Corey Chavous.
I'd rather just keep drafting QBs than trade away picks or sign a free agent which will be overpriced.

I like what the Patriots do in terms of drafting QBs regularly even though they have arguably the best QB in NFL History.   This started well before Tom Brady turned 39.   Not only do they have some insurance for Brady,  they gain trade leverage.

Why do you think he turned it over so much?

Bottom 3 defense, zero running game, brutal offensive line.

He basically had to heave it downfield constantly to keep this team in games because the defense couldn't stop a nosebleed and the running game was non-existent for the most part. Not to mention the amount of sacks given up by a Wiz/Beadles/Joeckel etc. offensive line.

Bortles has his problems, but if we had last years version of Bortles with this run game we had today and defense we are sitting AWFULLY different than we are now. It's not easy to find a top 5-10 QB. If he can be a top 12-15 guy like he showed potential to be last year than we need to take that and run. This defense is showing the upside of being one of the better ones when guys like Fowler/Jack/Ramsey/Yannick/Day etc. develop. There's a lot of upside there. I'd imagine with a top 5-8 pick this year we probably add to that core with a Peppers/Allen/Williams/Barnett etc. too.

Draft the best pure passer available. It's as simple and hard as that. Blake cannot be "Fixed". Quarterbacks either are ready(or close) when they come into the league. We cannot lead the league in turnovers and win. Watching him almost throw 3 more Int today right into the hands of wide open defenders just standing still has been repeated too often to think it will change.

Our new quarterback!! lol

Honestly a year of Cutler with a rookie may not be the worst thing or Romo if he restructured and is healthy doubt it.

Ouch.

Jason La Canfora is a hater of Bortles hes biased. He blamed Bortles on the int in the Bears game for instance.

Ouch.
He's bad this year. I think we all know this.

Doesn't change the fact last year he had all the showings of a young QB that was probably a top 15-18 QB and on the upward trajectery on a high powered offense that had some big issues on the OL and not much of a running game.

Nothing drastic is changing with him this year. He's going to keep having struggles until he can actually work on his craft in the offseason. So a new article saying how he's bad every week is just overkill. You don't just magically fix your mechanics which are obviously killing his accuracy.

If that means we should sit him and play Henne/Allen the rest of the year ok. But giving up on him would be a mistake. He showed way too much last year to do that, especially when it's obviously something that is fixable as he showed he could do it from his rookie year to his 2nd year.

He'll always throw some interceptions, that's what guys with his style of play will do. There's been some other QB's in the league who have his type of mentality too.

Bring in a new coaching staff. Get a OC/QB Coach (if the HC isn't offensive minded) that can work with him and make sure his mechanics stick.

QB's can't be fixed? I'm pretty sure Bortles proved you wrong going from his rookie year to his 2nd year. His mechanics were a huge improvement from college last year...HUGE.

It's most definitely fixable as his old coach from UCF and the MMBQ article the other day posted. But it's not something you can do in the season. Too short of a week with too much to do.
