The last man left alive gets to be QB.
Quote:Wentz and Lynch were my top 2 QB's last year, but at that point, I thought we had our franchise QB. I loved Wentz and thought he was the best QB to enter the draft in several years, but I follow college football very closely and I used to make up my own draft boards consisting of around 250 players a year. I'm a bit of a draftnik.
You thought this about those two in early November of the college football season? I am a draftnik too and they were barely coming onto the radar at this point, especally Wentz. They rose to prominence during the pre bowl game lull and then draft season as far as I recall.

I could be wrong but yesterday was thee first game ANY of our RB crew got over 50 yards individually. Not a Bortles fan necessarily because of his INT percentages and his mistakes mentally proves he's not really growing into the pro game everyone hoped for. But, when you have a one dimensional offense and ALL opposing teams know and prepare for this...........it doesn't exactly allow Bortles allot of options "other than" heaving the football downfield. So, with all that said...............what would Bortles look like if he wasn't forced to revolve their game around throwing it 90% of the time?

The Jags STILL have so many holes to fill and I'm just not sure going after another QB is where the smart money is on post season. On paper, the team actually looks capable and certainly better than a 2-6 team right now but the game is not played on paper. Personally, this team is in dire need of a new and fresh mantra or "attitude" and I just think it all lies in the front office first and right on down to HC. Bradley has proven that nice guys do finish last sometimes. At the very least, unless they run the table the rest of the way............he has got to go. Even if they do, it's still probably a good move to pull that trigger. How bout Norv Turner as OC and maybe keep Bortles?

The Cowboys got Prescott in the fourth round...correct? And look at him. Yesterday, he threw 3 TDs and 0 INTs.  His team is 7-1.

Gems can be found in mid rounds.

He would suck in Jax. They got a all pro rb,all pro offensive line, a top diva wr, old former all pro wiley veteran TE, a better backup qb for mentoring, a better head coach. We got crap.
Quote:I like bringing in the veteran option. Its time to do away with Henne.

Why, Henne has been a great $4m role model for Blake.   Wallbash  Wallbash
As bad as Bortles looks, I believe they need to see what he can do next year. It looks very unlikely that he will ever be a top 10 q.b. so they need to focus on the offensive line during the offseason- particularly better run blockers. Hopefully Blake can be a decent game manager- sort of like Garrard was during his best season with the Jags. He relied on Jones-Drew and excellent run-blockers. Ivory and Yeldon would do fine if given holes to run through like yesterday. This team also has much better receivers than Garrard ever had as a starter.

The team still needs to draft a potential replacement for Blake in case he becomes the next Josh Freeman. If a guy like Prescott is available in the 3rd round they should take him. If not, they may also need to take a shot at a mid-level free agent to compete with Brandon Allen. I hate to say it, but I don't have much confidence in Blake's future since he gets rattled so easily and just doesn't appear to have the mental toughness required in a starting quarterback.

Quote:Blake may be unfixable at this point. He doesn't use his mobility to his advantage anymore. Can't feel/sense pressure. Stares down receivers. Forces throws. Slow mechanics. That's even more of a fixer upper than Alex Smith got with Jim Harbaugh and Andy Reid.
Can't feel/sense pressure? Did you not watch the game yesterday?

He was good last year. Everyone thought we had our franchise QB and our QB for the next decade like 4 months ago....good grief.
Blake's revised throwing motion looks fake and awkward. Looks like a wannabe pro style qb. Poser.

I agree that he still displays a pretty good awareness of pressure and pocket collapse. Better than a lot of young QBs.

 -  but his reluctance to step up into the pocket is very alarming   -   and for whatever reason he's just been unlucky when choosing his "escape route" several times this season, but that's not really on him unless he's just already held the ball way too long when he takes off. Which has also happened a number of times:/

Not giving up on him yet, but I hope to see legit competition for him in June/July.

Please let's get a good coaching staff around Bortles and send him to his qb school for like a long time in the off season, ditch Henne (waste of money) and let's give  Allen a chance , I watched all of the arkansas game, if he's anything like his little brother he could be awesome.

Draft another QB ( input from new staff) and see what happens in camp. bb5 either makes it it breaks it. I think we have an overlooked gem in Allen.

If Blake looks like a potential franchise QB the rest of the season, then draft a QB in round 3-5 just in case.  If Blake is clearly not the guy or it's unclear, then waste our 1st round draft pick on a QB.

Agreed, I'm all for competition but these people ready to move on after this season need to realize what we had at QB before Blake. Besides Garrard it's been terrible. Look around at a lot of teams around the league who have had high picks and failed at getting "the guy".

Blake has shown too much to give up on him.

As for stepping up in pocket I agree, but one play jumps out at me from yesterday was when Beachum got beat on a play and Bortles spun away and saved Beachum from giving up a sack. Was a hell of a play. He definitely recognizes pressure pretty well. I mean it's not like everytime there's pressure the QB is going to see it, not even the best of the best are flawless in that area.

Can't fix his problem in season man. It's not going to be til the offseason where he can try and iron out these mechanics problems out.

Absolutely. Wentz was actually on my radar very early in the year. I happened to catch a NDSU game the season before and the kid really looked the part, so I followed him pretty closely via game tapes on the web although finding them proved quite the challege. There just wasn't much out there, especially since he was injured. If it weren't for me watching that game the year before though, I would have never known about him. It was just dumb luck. As for Lynch, for some reason Memphis had like 4 games on television in my area early in the 2015 season and I got to see him play a number of times. His accuracy and ability to throw on the run really caught my eye. I like bigger pocket QB's with accuracy, instincts and the ability to throw on the run. Again, I just got lucky that I was able to watch Lynch play so much that year.

Timmy would have us at least 5-3 right now, and this is coming from an FSU fan.
