Blake may be unfixable at this point. He doesn't use his mobility to his advantage anymore. Can't feel/sense pressure. Stares down receivers. Forces throws. Slow mechanics. That's even more of a fixer upper than Alex Smith got with Jim Harbaugh and Andy Reid.

Exactly, Bortles didn't win the game but he sure as crap didn't lose it either.

OK. Admittedly football is rocket surgery for me. He was 2 passes near o perfect.
Even the Hurns 'drop', slack airless ball, to me.

I'm resigned to believing that we aren't going to take another shot at a franchise QB until 2018. We'll make some half measure/stop gap move at QB that won't really be intended to challenge Blake, and he will struggle through another season next year before we draft another QB high.
It's depressing.

Quote:Serious question. I think we should try and bring in someone like Romo, Garrapplo etc. I dont think this team can afford going the rookie starting right away route. I dont think Blake is the answer. Let him earn the job next season.
Romo is an elite quarterback when he's healthy. Problem is last season he went down twice with injury, and this preseason the same happened. He's had other injury woes. So I don't think I would go after Romo because he's injury prone.
Jimmy G looks alright, but so did Hoyer, Mallet, Cassel and there's probably another Patriots QB I've forgotten that was hyped and did nothing elsewhere. Maybe Jimmy G will be different, but I don't think I could trust a backup Pats QB as our starter.
For me, Bortles gets at least one more year under a new head coach. If by the end of his rookie contract he's still inconsistent, has questionable mechanics, and continues to be up and down with his decision making, then at that point we move on. But I think he gets another year under a new head coach. He's shown enough flashes of ability to warrant that, and lets face it, there's no real standout QB in this coming draft. I suppose we could always trade him to the Browns or 49ers and use their first round pick on a rookie, but I'm not a fan of this class.

Jags fans are stuck with Bortles for the next couple seasons at least (barring injury or just a complete meltdown).
The hope will be that BB cam keep getting better, work on those mechanics, and become more of a game manager QB.
If the running game and defense keep improving (playing like yesterday), Blake doesn't need to be "elite" for the Jags to win. He just needs to be a little better and manage the game without turnovers. YESTERDAY was somewhat better. No turnovers and the Jags win that one. No turnovers and the Jags beat Baltimore.
Blake's good in the 4th qtr. If he manages games and keeps his 4th qtr play up, Jags are in better shape if running game and defense come back.

I don't think this teams biggest priority should now or ever be getting another quarterback; we should focus on improving our pathetic offensive line. A good line will make an average quarterback, running back, or receivers look good.

Quote:I didn't think he has an awful game, he missed on that strike to Robinson deep but I would of liked to of seen more effort from
Robinson. And he did stare down his receiver for the int.
Apart from that he was solid I thought.
And the Chiefs dropping 2 picks.
Bortles got lucky big time. He hit their DB in the chest in the endzone one play before our touchdown there.
He was slightly better, but we would be singing a different tune if that DB caught that interception in the endzone before the half.

I would rather what until 2018 to use a high pick on a QB, than to reach on one in 2017 and be stuck in the same situation that we are now 4-5 years from now. Sometimes, if you want to fix something right, you have to have a little patience. I know it sucks, but sometimes there just is no easy fix on these things.

Those are not the only two options.
What makes you think we would be "stuck" in the same situation as we are now?
All I know is: we better draft a qb who can just sling it. Need someone with "natural passing" ability with a strong, accurate arm.

Meanwhile Blake is blamed because ivory drops a ball and the referees make a huge error and for not being perfect.
Those same people saying that think Luck is awful too.

Because unless we get Trubisky, which is very unlikely, I don't see a QB in the 2017 draft with the ability to come in and be an instant starter. I don't want to waste a draft pick on another Blaine Gabbert. That would set us back even further.

There is a ton of time for a QB or two to show himself.

Trubisky failure rate will be high if he enters the draft in 2017. He just started becoming successful this season and has only played a few college games. QBs should stay in college for 4 years. Future bust.

Dak Prescott also wasn't considered an upgrade for anyone, but he looks like he will be a starter for a long time.
Find a natural passer with natural arm talent and develop him. Put a good offensive line around him and we will be straight.

I keep seeing people mention Jimmy Garoppolo, how exactly would we be getting him? Why on earth would NE trade their QB heir?

Wentz and Lynch were my top 2 QB's last year, but at that point, I thought we had our franchise QB. I loved Wentz and thought he was the best QB to enter the draft in several years, but I follow college football very closely and I used to make up my own draft boards consisting of around 250 players a year. I'm a bit of a draftnik. With that said, I also missed on Dak Prescott. I had no idea he'd be as good as he is. I had him near the middle of the pack in the QB class and viewed him more of a career backup. I also whiffed on Bortles when I had him as the #1 QB in his draft, ahead of Derek Carr (my #2). I had Jimmy Garrappolo as #3 and Teddy Bridgewater as #4, so I make mistakes too. Sometimes it's just a crapshoot.

Because Tom Brady said he'd like to play another 10 years and with the way he's playing now, that could happen. The guy looks superhuman. They also recently drafted Jacoby Brissett who looks promising as well and he'd cost a lot less than Garrappolo, who will probably command a sizable contract. The Patriots are all about saving money. They also love accumulating draft picks.
