Nope... we'll have to do a Julio Jones style blockbuster trade to go get him in top 10-15, imo. If he slides that far.

I'm sorry Mr. Scout but what have you seen in his career that shows any signs of a higher ceiling? 2015 was arguably his best year, and his numbers have dropped off since to a consistent level of mediocracy regardless of talent around him.

I'm still on the boat about the pros and cons of him coming back next year. I wouldn't want to waste another year of this team, windows can close in the space of an offseason. Just depends how we attack the position.
You said you talked to Bortles agent ( you didn't ) and Murray (you didn't ).
I never said those things ever. Not once. Try reading comprehension. Everything I was told was through a third party. Jags were very interested in Latavius through Coughlin talking to his friend George O'Leary. Jags didn't feel comfortable offering him much money coming off an injury. Big deal.

OK Mrs. Bortles.
I see you just want to argue... so let's argue.
You don't know what will happen in next week, much less in April or May. So your guarantee ain't worth 2 dead flies.
Also... I said the more the season goes on the more I can see Bortles being here and them drafting what I would consider "insurance" in the 2nd or 3rd. We're no so devoid of talent anymore that we'd expect a 2nd or 3rd rounder to necessarily be an immediate starter. We could still address OL or WR or TE in round 1 and 3 (if QB goes round 2).
However... it's still very possible that with Bortles big cap hit and the mounting injuries to OL and WR that we might have to shell out some CAP ched to make those positions fluid or improve... If TC and/or Dave REALLY like Baker or Mason or Rosen... I could see them making that move too.
But I won't guarantee anything... cuz I'm not an idiot.
Bortles is the best QB in the division this year without a #1 WR and with a so/so OL. Go ahead....eat crow.
That's like saying he's the best looking fat chick (sorry fat chicks).
That's like saying he's the cousin you like kissing best...
It's like... it's like....... not that good.
Bortles is was and always will be a "good not great" QB.
Which is fine... as a stop gap... or journeyman... not as a franchise QB.
You move on before you get trapped in a contract he doesn't deserve and causes issues keeping the real talent on the team.
I'll eat crow when Bortles puts this team on his back and wills them to a victory in a game we shouldn't win.
I'll eat crow when/if there is a time to. But it certainly isn't right now.
The team is winning in a multitude of ways. But few of the wins are on what Bortles has done. Granted he's had a couple good games. But he's been dragged to victory by this defense more often than not.
(11-16-2017, 11:02 PM)Jagzfanfromiowa Wrote: [ -> ]I'm sitting here watching the Steelers/Titans and watching Mariota throw 2 first half INTs on his own side of the 50. Luckily for him, his defense has been able to bail him out on both so far. My question is, do you think Titan's fan constantly clamor for a new QB like some of our fans do about Blake?
I'm obviously pro Bortles, and believe that he has taken some steps in the right direction this year. Yes his 2 INTs last week in the 4th were back breakers, but up until that point I thought he played incredibly well. How different would that game have looked last week if Cole catches that long TD, or Mercedes brings in that long catch, or if Marquise doesn't drop that long pass in OT? If either of the first 2 happen, we're not even the position in the 4th where we're throwing the ball and neither one those INTs even happen. I actually have very little doubt that he'll be our starting quarterback next year. I read an article on Jaguars.com today where Hackett is quoted as saying that he believes "Blake has been playing very well, very, very well, this whole year." This shows me that this staff is not only pleased with how Blake has looked this year, but encouraged for the future. If this year continues to play out as it has so far, with the Jaguars making a playoff appearance, than it's safe to say that no one on this staff is going anywhere, unless they are lured away for a promotion. My point in saying this is that if we retain the same staff, offensive anyway, and they are very, very, pleased with the play out of their quarterback, then he is obviously in the future plans for at least this staff. The GM can draft a quarterback all they want too, but it's the coach who decides who plays. I think that some of you who think Blake has no chance of being the quarterback of the future of this team are delusional. I've put a link to the article with Hackett gushing about Blake. Just my 2 cents. Go Jags!
http://www.jaguars.com/news/article-Jagu...7d33bbf40e
I believe the Jags will attempt to do the same thing they intended to do with Bortles, which is to draft a QB they believe to be "THE GUY" (if there is one in the draft) and have him sit, practice and learn for a year before starting...That didn't work out with Bortles, but it was the plan...
They very well could bring in a FA QB, but I think they will also look at youth...If they bring in a FA QB, they won't have as many years with him as they will with a rookie, plus a FA will be more money than they will have to pay instead of a rookie contract which will help with the salary cap...I know we aren't in trouble with the cap and there is lots of room left, but the more they save on cap hits, the more core players we can keep in the future...
With a good running game and stout defense, Bortles is good enough to win with even if he is just a game manager...
He won't be our starter come next year. So this is all a mute point.

I agree with this idea to a point. I think he will be the starter next year but a qb will drafted in the late first round under the guise of needing a back up (Henne will be gone) as well as a developmental guy and the value was to great blah blah blah. As long as this team continues to win, he will buy himself more time to try and develop. With that said you would be crazy to think this team would get caught again without some sort of back up plan in case he implodes and starts costing us games. If he gets better then the qb we drafted becomes trade bait. If not we’re moving on.
