We drafted an offensive lineman in round 2 and had one of the best lines in the league this year. It definitely needs additions but it was an elite unit this year.

I'd hate to see what you consider a crappy offensive line. At least you didn't pretend Lewis is an athletic TE, so we are getting somewhere...

Tell me dearest StroudCrowd, which metrics do you use to judge offensive line play? Particularly of lines you haven't seen play much of?

Stroudcrowd1 uses the old eye test to make his evaluations. Typically never fails. HNY!

Ah a man after my own heart. So for the teams you haven't watched any/much of, how would you judge their lines? What stats would you value as it pertains to line play?

Some stats are important, but I don't use them to solely evaluate the effectiveness of a unit. They don't typically factor in "garbage time" or "clutch situations", so that is why I am not a big believer in judging someone solely on their stats.

If you are saying our O-line is an elite unit, then you are also saying Fournette isn't that great of a back.

Accurate statement if you think about it.
I think we had half hearted play on offense yesterday. There was no creativity. We just lined up and went man on man pounding it into their line. Just the type of plan that is like banging your head into the wall. Bottles plays better when we come out fast paced and using the pass to get him in rhythm. I am tired of Bottles but we have no other options.

Yep.

Also, in every loss this season the first Jags offensive play from scrimmage was a run.

How is the OC calling middle draw on every 1st down BB fault?

Of course you don't judge someone solely on stays..thats why I'm asking you how you judge a teams Oline who you haven't watched.

Facing the most 8 men boxes in the league and still being one of the most effective rushing attacks in the league is damn impressive. And why can't both have merit. Line was elite this year and Fournette is a good back. Both can be (and are imo) true.

If Bortles wasn't the QB those middle dives would work every time. Every. Time.

It is funny that you guys don't see the problem at QB. It is also funny when we don't account for drops and alligator arms. I want to see leadership and it is what it is.

The problem at QB is that some people think the QB is the problem.

THIS. I laugh at the fools who said "Why isn't Bortles good with all the great WRs he has Hurns and Robinson?"........uh did any Jags fans watch Hurns and Robinson play last year? They were both terrible, couldn't catch or get off the line of scrimmage much less separate from opposing corners.

This year with actual SPEED WRs, Keelan Cole, Marquise Lee, and Dede Westbrook----actual WRs who know how to separate, the offense is #5 in the league.

Bortles is good. Doesn't matter which WRs are in the game- Bortles makes them better. The people who said "Allen Robinson is elite were wrong. The guy is a possession WR who can't beat #1 corners."

The entire offseason will be spent on getting 3-4 MORE OL players......already a shortage even if we had Branden Albert. Bortles plays GREAT when his OL protects and plays terrible and throws INTs when his OL can't protect.......that's 95% of QBs in the NFL.

Dude... you completely ignore the awful inaccuracy and INTs and put all the blame solely everywhere else.
Yeah drops kill a QBs stats... but every QB deals with issues.
The best ones overcome them.

Bortles is great, until he's down 2 scores and we need him to make something happen. Then he's downright terrible.
The less pressure on him, the looser he plays. But he cracks under pressure.

This is a pretty accurate post.

In this year's draft it should be:

1. OL
2. OL
3. TE
4. OL
5. WR
7. QB
7. CB/S

Last year YOU and all the pundits said that Bortles was only good in garbage time. Once again, I tried to educate you and tell you HOW WOULD YOU KNOW when their scoring defense for 4 years straight was #26-#32? ALL OF THE JAGS GAMES WERE GARBAGE TIME.

This year, Bortles is playing BETTER with the lead than he is without the lead. What excuse do you have now? Nothing.

OL will be addressed in the offseason. It's the worst unit and problem on the team. Leonard Fournette is an all American in college and #1 high school player in America. He gets behind this o line and he's a plodder with 3.5 YPC. O line and Luke Joeckel was the main reason Bortles threw many INT's early in his career as well. It's amazing that Joeckel didn't get Bortles killed or paralyzed after 110 sacks his first 2 years.

Most franchises build the o line up first. Cam Robinson was a good start. We need at least 3-4 more studs for depth. Branden Albert was a bad miss.

You're incredibly lacking in gray matter or senile to keep saying that.  Or possibly both.  Please show a single sentence that indicates that.  C'mon, that should be easy since...you know..I think he's such a good QB prospect and all.  Duuurrrrrrrr.
Who let this guy back in?
