If Haskins is far and away the guy you want, than you have to position yourself to get him even if there's only one other team in your way. I recall how the Bears traded up from #3 to #2 for Trubisky just to be sure they got him. When it comes to the qb position, that's what you have to do.

Also, another reason to at least consider moving up is that this DL rich draft will have several top teams itching to move down, so it might not take all that much to move up this year. 

We're still waiting to hear about Tyree Jackson. He put his name in the transfer portal so he has all of his options open.

Good point, although Ohio wasn't exactly known for stellar OL play so I think he's had some experience with pressure.

I noticed the same thing watching Grier. His OL consistently held up down after down giving him all the time in the world to throw. He's definitely a shot-gun, pocket passer, but I just cringe to think of him under intense NFL pressure. I don't really see a guy who can buy time for deeper throws or who can make things happen after escaping the pocket. At best he's Byron Leftwich with a quicker release.

So you haven't seen him under pressure so you assume he would be bad against pressure?

I like Haskins... I just don't get all the Grier hate, or dislike, or whatever.

And I'd venture to say, most QBs when faced with the type of pressure OUR o-line allows, would struggle lol


but hey... if all the haters are right and he's more of a 2nd rounder.... I'd love to get a great OL guy and then Grier in the 2nd.
Personally I think the G-Men take Haskins (Eli plays one more year while the young kid sits) we take Grier or Lock and Miami moves on from Tannehill and moves up to take whoever is left of those 3.

He's not good  ready so I'm not really trying to hear about him 
Hopefully (for him) he transfers to a Power 5 school puts up a good season and improves his stock. But he just seems so raw. Some wow stuff for sure, but also some ew throws.

The difference between us and New York will only be a pick or two, when it's all said and done assuming both teams lose next week. I don't care if we have to give up more to get ahead of the Giants. I don't wanna take the risk of them selecting Haskins, because as of now, I believe we are picking #9 and I don't see another QB that I would be comfortable taking in the top 20 picks. I just wouldn't do it.

I don't have any issues taking Lock at #9, but I'd prefer taking Haskins at #3 if that was an option.

It might not take quite as much. With so many impressive DLs, I can see all of the top three teams looking to trade down. I certainly don't think we'd have to top the trade charts, so let's take a look...

Speculation is that the Giants will have the #6 pick and the Jaguars the #9 pick. To move up to #5, the Jaguars would need about 350 points. In this draft, our 3rd round pick plus our 4th round pick should be enough to get there.

Now, to get to the #3 pick which some are saying it would take, we'd need about 850 points, which is roughly equal to our 2nd, 3rd and 4th. I'm hoping just doing to #5 would be enough, but this latter options still leaves us with the #3 overall, a 3rd round pick, and then our picks from round 5 on. To get the top pick would require an additional 800 points and would surely include our 2020 first round pick.

I have seen him side-step or move up to avoid pressure as he does have a natural awareness for pressure while in the pocket. I've even commented that I like his pocket presence while in there, but what I haven't seen is that ability to escape the pocket to either avoid intense pressure or to buy time for a deeper throw. When I say I haven't really seen him under intense pressure, I'm talking about the kind of pressure our OL allows. And really for the most part, Grier hasn't been under any pressure. I've seen him have enough time to take a picnic back there.

Of all the positions to play, QB has the steepest learning curve from college to NFL. The next steepest position isn't even close. If he makes it look so easy how is he going to respond to failing at an alarming rate when he gets to the NFL? Because he certainly will. How can he survive growing pains as a rookie if he never had to in college? I think he's a mental midget and will buckle under the pressure when everything he does is being read like a book and being tricked by DCs who exploit his weaknesses. No thanks.

He makes it look easy because of his command of the game and his natural arm. By no means is he a mental midget. Give me a break. You can make up crap like this to discredit any quarterback.

He flashes some good any QB worth drafting does. But he also makes some terrible plays as well and his accuracy, decision making, and consistency in both leave a lot to be desired.

So, because he played so well in college, he is bound to fail in the NFL? That makes no sense. And how can you call him a "mental midget?" Do you know him personally? If so, tell us why you believe this. If not, you have no idea what you are talking about.
