1.Think I voted yes, but I might have abstained on that one.

2. YES. ALL THE YES.

3 and 4. No. The tax burden should be shared evenly, without regard to disability or age (or other demographic factors).
Quote:Basically what flsprtsgod said; senior citizens already get tons of financial breaks, they don't need more and that burden certainly shouldn't be shifted onto a generation that is struggling enough financially as it is. Plus, with Florida's population of retired people this just reeks of easy populism.

They did stipulate that you had to live in the house for 25 years, so it's not like you would be able to retire, move to Florida and take advantage of the exemption.
Quote:I don't want to seem non-compassionate towards old people, but they are already getting the social security being taken out of my paycheck to which I will likely never see a dime when my time comes. The property tax amendment just seems like a bit much.

Having said that, I am 100% for wounded veterans getting every possible break, and then some.

Social Security checks amount to very little of the money senior citizens need for living expenses. Many people who qualify for it don't have enough money to pay property taxes where they live.

That does make it a little more tolerable when I have had time to think about it. It is the thought of where additional tax income will come from to make up for the loss that I don't like.

Where will it come from?

You and I will subsidize it through higher taxes of our own.

Don't worry, you'll get to pay your share. They'll find a way.

If your landlords taxes go up, your rent goes up. See how that works?

Mom bought the condo and pays taxes on it. I don't pay a cent for anything on the planet.

Guess that explains why you are a democrat.

LOL No it doesn't. Disabled people, young people, and women tend to be Democrats whether they have jobs or not.

Privileged I see.  You have no skin in the game.

LOL No I am not privileged at all. I spend no money because I have no money.

On topic, how much is the tax increase if Amendment 1 passes?

No tax increase as I understand it.  What it does do if passed is punish solar users for being solar users

That does not make any sense.
Quote:That does not make any sense.
It does when you see who is behind Amendment 1.  Which also is why it was worded to make you think it supports Solar yet is designed to punish anyone that chooses to unplug.

It doesn't, it punishes you if you leave and then come crawling back because your green alternative didn't work.
