Here is the issue with your logic (IMO): this whole season is a preseason for Trevor. The whole balance of the team hangs on him developing. It does not matter at all in the grand scheme of things if the backup QB has a good game or two. That is why Trevor goes back in.

Sucks how Keelan ended up with a worse situation with the Jets.

We definitely could use his ability to get open and make a catch even if he isn't a burner.

He signed a 1 year $5.5m deal, so he'll be a FA after the season. So it's not like he's stuck with them for the next 2-3 years.

True, but I would remind you that we were playing without our best offensive player (running back James Robinson) plus 3 starting offensive linemen, plus our best wide receiver (lost for year), plus a first round pick (also lost for year).  We were also starting a rookie quarterback.  

At least we got the win.

not to mention you're playing a team that's number one in points allowed.... I believe they said bills only allow an average of 14 points a game I think it might even be less than that... they're also number one in scoring...average of 32 points a game and we held them to six....
