Just heard an interesting theory on the Cam Robinson signing.
That Franchise Guy said in his last mock draft that the signing of Cam Robinson was a power play by Baalke. Pederson supposedly favors taking a T, but with the signing, Baalke can say we;;, we don't need a T now, and he picks Walker.
I would not like that.

He's a guy capable of dominating a game, but he needs help.
Pick up the 4th year option and get him some help.
Yup and his running mate should hopefully be coming #1 overall.

Definitely not in the minority on this. I'm really hoping we pick up some interior OL help in the middle rounds. A "jar on the shelf" type like an Uche Nwaneri or Ben Bartch from a bigger school would be ideal to me.

It's stunning to me that they haven't picked that up yet. Especially given how cheap the 5th year option is compared to the market for pass rushers. He's done everything right since he's gotten here and is a good leader with high character. .... Reward that; pick up the option and immediately start working on an extension.
They have until Monday to pick it up, but I agree completely. No reason to drag it out. He'd make $11.5m on the 5th year option.

I don't think you're in the minority at all. I think that is the Jags' plan all along.

if Little wins the RT position then Taylor backs up the RT and RG positions.
Rumors are floating that Taylor is being shopped.
Could he be packaged with picks to move up in the draft? Just spit-balling here...
Does anybody want him? I can't imagine us getting an offer better than a half eaten bologna sandwich on moldy wonder bread.

2024 7th rounder + 1 fine ham sammich
Nobody will offer that much.

That sounds like typical Baalke. I predicted his relationship with Pederson would not last long. If this is true, it may be finished before the end of the season.

That's pretty silly. Everyone on the planet knew they were working on a deal with Cam. It's not like Baalke was doing this on his own.
And besides, it's only a 3-year deal. That's really a short term fix. That shouldn't preclude taking an offensive lineman.

Only a complete idiot would believe Baalke did this on his own. If I knew several weeks ago that the Jags were working on a deal with Cam, do you really think Pederson didn't know about it or approve of the effort? Come on. You're not an idiot.

In one of Pedersons first interviews he said he wanted to keep Cam. I'm guessing he thinks his staff can get more out of him than the past

oh absolutely.
I don't categorize any of the positions as "desperate" along the line now, which is good; desperate leads to reaches or sacrificing value at other spots to plug a need. We still should focus on depth and developmental guys, which is what you should expect from guys taken in that 3-5 range.

I think in Cam's case, you know what you are getting. It would probably be a daunting task to expect a second-year QB to make a big jump with a line made up of a rook (or Taylor) and Little who was limited experience at the ends. Cam is good, not great, but still young enough that you should expect him to be able to contribute for the duration of the deal at his present level of play. Contrast that to signing someone like Jason Peters or Whitworth last year, age was definitely a concern with both injury and performance fade, and I don't think the Jags wanted to pursue any option that would have similar risk.
Another facet of this deal is that now it puts some pressure on Little - he's the cheap price tag, it's on him to grow and take over, otherwise he'll risk the discussion of replacement cost now. While he's still very affordable, we have time to either determine that he is a long-term solution, or the next guy that needs to be upgraded.

Before today, I had never heard of That Franchise Guy; I think he's accomplished his mission with that statement.
That sounds highly speculative and could be a career killer if it fails. I don't think Baalke is
that dumb, but stranger things have happened.

Sounds like a TMD theory.

Forgive the semantical diversion, but isn't a hypothesis an educated guess?
Was what The Franchise Guy offered an educated guess?

I didn't get why so many people thought we were taking Ickey or Neal at #1. Baalke was not going to give up after one year on Walker Little who was an early second round pick of his and looked good in a couple of games to end the season. When they franchise tagged Cam, it was clear that they weren't going offensive tackle at #1. You don't pay someone $16 million to be insurance to a #1 overall pick and you don't draft someone at #1 overall to be your long-term answer at guard. To me, this just confirms what we already knew.
A. We don't know how Pederson feels about this line. Little was ok but no world beater, Cam is serviceable, Norwell is alright, Schreff has injury history, etc. It isn't like this is a world class offensive line and is "built."
B. $16 million a year is on the low end for a starting LT. I don't think Cam's sighing has a direct effect on the draft either way.

True. A theory has been tested by prior experimentation, such as say the theory of relativity or the theory of gravity.
And yes, I'm a just an old man screaming at clouds.... literally should not mean the same thing as figuratively and theory should not just replace hypothesis or guess.

Norwell?
LOL
Yeah if Norwell is starting on this o-line that's going to be a pretty big hole in the interior.

Hey, still two days of darft left, you never know what we'll trade for.

Jamaree Salyer, Darian Kinnard & Cam Jurgens would be ideal if they end up trading up tonight.
