I could care less about him. But I am humoured by ease with which this board decides principle based on expediency.
He's literally been on 3 other NFL rosters in past offseasons
I call into question your principle!

This is a non-issue. I remember Brock Lez…nevermind, I don’t feel like it.

One honest post. In a sea of equivocation, this one honest post shines brightly.

In the end it doesn't matter as the 90th or 85th, whatever the last roster spot is at this time of year is, won't be making the roster and let him and his dad have a good family moment in a preseason game.

I...wut?
So you are saying a 37 year old TE is where you want to invest time and money developing?
One thing is for certain, if we embraced that development strategy we'd be able to have our pick of the players available. Ain't nobody else that daft.
No, I said a 35 year old Tebow with 1-2 years of practice at TE is probably better than this 25 year old will be.
Neither of them would be on a roster.

The Pederson kid is already a better tight end than Tebow could ever be.
dude needs to go make his case on a different team
this is pure nepotism and a distraction

Agree that neither would be on a roster, but if I am putting effort into one or the other, it's still a young man's game. Much more potential to improve or sustain than someone at the back end of the league's elder statesmanship.

how is it a distraction?
Are players investing time in observing the differences (if any) in how he is treated versus how they themselves (or other team members) are treated?
Has any player voiced issues with the distraction of having a 6th string TE who knows the coach stealing their reps?
Simply put, the league is a performance-based organization. Play well, or risk getting cut. Sign good players, or risk getting fireded. Coach the players well, or risk getting canned. If Doug or Trent keep a less talented TE just because he shares chromosomes with the coach, then they are putting their necks on the line. Has that happened yet? Are you
that upset that we cut Leonard Taylor to make room for this kid?
I still haven't heard from the other one who was so off-put by this move what other TE merited signing to replace our injured player, do you have suggestions that would have been less of a distraction to our beloved Jags?

Yeah, Justin Houston.
(Then cut Chaisson and sign Pederson anyway.)

How much will it take to sign and how much does Houston have left in the tank? Yea, he had 9.5 sacks last year. Problem is if you look at his game by game 8 of them came week 11 and before. He appeared to almost disappear the back half of the season. He got 6.5 of them against the Saints, Tampa Bay and Cleveland. I would rather look elsewhere, something is up there...

ps, I believe he had 1 tackle against us and our line was #20 or worse.

As the 3rd down guy like Key was I think he would be fine. He just needs a snap count at his age.

@FTR, Justin Houstin has as much experience at TE as Teebs did@
No way Chaisson makes the team this year. There’s just no way.

Chaisson is going to go OFF and be a one man wrecking crew. Kind of like Taylor did last year.....

In 2008 the Jaguars drafted Derrick Harvey and signed him to a 5 year contract. He was cut after his 3rd season. This is just 1 example of how contracts don’t mean you will make the team.

Harvey's contract had $17m guaranteed and it was already paid out before he was cut. He made $18m as a Jaguar. They didn't cut him with a bunch of money owed still as far as guarantees.
Chaisson will only turn 24 years old on July 25th. We are weak at Pass Rush, so it'd be incredibly stupid to cut a young Pass Rusher, have to eat $2m in dead cap space and still pay him to not be on the roster.
Maybe Chaisson turns the corner this year, or maybe he doesn't, but it'd be dumb to make a weak position group even weaker, all while paying somebody who isn't here. You let him play out his final contract year and see what happens.
I'm willing to bet that he'll be better than Timmy was.

You're making a big assumption that the team couldn't be better with someone else in his place.
