We need to see why Elijah Cooks, the only undrafted player that made the final roster when we selected a total of thirteen players back in April, is on this football team.

The failures on offense this year cannot be chalked up to Zay Jones' absence. I am sorry. It's just not a good enough excuse. Period. You traded for Ridley. You signed Kirk. You extended Engram. You have Agnew. You have Etienne. You have Johnson.

You have a [BLEEP] Superbowl winning head coach that called his offense and had levels of success that most people will never come close to. Get it together...

With all due respect to Zay, he is a solid WR.. him missing time is certainly not the reason our offense has been this bad. It's a combination of poor QB play, a terrible O line, and questionable play calling.

Unless Zay is secretly the second coming of Jerry Rice, I doubt him being out is really that big of a deal.

In some parts around here or on social media you would think otherwise. Everybody acts like he's the secret sauce to a good burger or something here locally. We can't even get the [BLEEP] burger right coming out of the kitchen at this time. Let's get that fixed first before we worry about anything else.

Good God. With all due respect, enough with the 'mental health'. How about just behaving like a decent, upstanding person?  Mental health is the new scapegoat for sloppy behavior.

Mental health issues aren’t some kind of scam bro and you don’t seem to know much about his history. I just hope the story doesn’t get worse and we’re reading an obituary in a few weeks.

She was leaving for Orlando with their child against his wishes is what I understand.

That $11M signing bonus could pay for some DARN good lawyers.

Still can, but now you're dealing with defense instead of civil. Ope.

You guys have seen Tim Jones  (or Agnew) getting open as the #3 at times lately.

Alternately, you've seen what Zay did in those situations last year.

Please compare what Zay did in those opportunities to what 15/39 have done with the same and get back to me.

It makes a difference.

It's not that he's a world beater. He's a viable threat when the defense devotes energy to covering other routes.
It leaves him matched up against beatable coverage and he takes advantage of that more than our next best options (Agnew/Tim)
Besides all that - he's just a better receiver than those guys.

Yes, we have other offensive woes besides missing Zay and he's not necessarily the thing "breaking" our production with his absence, but it would be better with him.

Now - the other Zay issues:
All we can do is hope he's receiving and following the advice of good counseling legally and with his mental health right now.

It makes a difference, however, he's not been very active this year so it goes back to the main point. What is the coaching staff doing? Also, I can very EASILY counter argue that having Ridley in this offense this year should be opening up more opportunities and creativity for Kirk, Engram and Etienne in the passing game but it's not happening enough.

Again, you drafted thirteen players back in April. You kept one undrafted receiver in Cooks. When or where are we going to start giving him more meaningful looks and opportunities? At this point. I have to start questioning the coaching staff, because, they've failed to fix the offensive line challenges whether it's personnel or play calls. They've failed in getting Bigsby going as a 3rd RD investment. They're failing in getting Lawrence to see and connect with Strange when he's given the few opportunities to go run routes.

Ridley is being used poorly. Needs to be used in motion more, find better match-up's for him. Get other folks involved in different avenues and lanes of opportunities out there. I just keep seeing excuse after excuse after excuse and I am tired of it. It's the middle of November. I pray we see something different this Sunday. Again, enough of the excuses.

You really can't grasp the effect a bad oline has on a team huh?

Not one of them players are worth a [BLEEP] if Trevor doesn't have the time to get the ball to them. Exactly what we've seen all season.

Yeah - to my eyes it really is the line causing at least 80% of the problems for this offense.

Trevor (as a result of consistently poor line play) has fallen back into some poor decision making, but again, it's stemming from the root problem.

Caldrac has perfectly fine suggestions/gripes about receiver usage, but unfortunately that stuff is also hindered by...
well, you know.

I'll be anxious/excited to see what adjustments are made, but I don't know if they are going to be all that effective when facing the AFC's best defenses. We just don't have the horses up front IMO.

We're trying to lean out the fuel mix and change the racing slicks on a drag car that simply has 400 less horsepower than the better opponents we have to eliminate. The OL is a centerpiece of the offense just like the motor in that drag car. Pretty hard to overcome a straight up better motor in the lane next to you.

Damn skippy! Don't tell me we can't make adjustments, try something different or line up in different formations. That's a load of [BLEEP]. Pick up the pace, plug and play when and where needed and let's go!

People are acting like I am asking them to fundamentally change everything that they do on offense. I am not Vince Lombardi on here preaching the sweep run or running the football in the alley.

I am just saying. It's 3rd and inches man... you know... can we try going with a jumbo package or an actual power formation where the number game starts to stack in your favor against their base defense?

And, if the run isn't there? Check off into a quick slant or a screen? There's got to be something we can do other than, you know, doing the same [BLEEP] that's not going to work in every game.

Again, even in their six wins. This offense has performed like a stale fart in an elevator inside a haunted mansion. It's ghastly.

Missing Zay Jones is certainly partly responsible for the team's offensive struggles. Lawrence relied on him often in key situations and his 82 receptions last season are not easily replaced. That being said, the offense is certainly capable of being much better. It starts with the offensive line not giving Trevor enough time. For the first time this season, I saw him rattled due to the constant pressure applied by Bosa, Young, etc. Unfortunately, the offensive line's ceiling for the remainder of this season is not very high. Possibly Ezra Cleveland will upgrade the guard position, but Fortner is still a major liability and I worry about Harrison due to his shoulder injury.

There is still a good possibility the Jaguars make the playoffs. They should rebound against a poor Titans team this week. I believe the Texans game in 2 weeks will determine the AFC South champion, but the loser still has a shot at a wild card. The Browns losing Watson certainly makes that game more winnable. I have confidence that Trevor will rebound as he has proven to be extremely resilient in the past.

I echo your concerns about the help Zay needs to receive. I wish I could say that it's surprising some people still do not understand mental illness. Most of these people clearly have not experienced this either themselves or for a close family member. It would be nice if they could still show some empathy, but thankfully many more people in 2023 recognize the severity of this disease.

No, the linemen we have cannot do that. It's really that simple and no matter how many times you claim that fact is an excuse it does not change the fact.

And the fact is that he's been inactive the majority of this year and you traded a 3rd, potentially a 2nd RD pick for Ridley to help elevate the offense.

Again, enough with the [BLEEP] excuses already. We're mismanaging personnel as a coaching staff while also trying to compensate for the front office's inability to build the trenches on both sides.

This team is [BLEEP] if it loses this Sunday. People think it's bad now? God help us if they lose to the tacks this Sunday. Scary prospect to think about.

It's not an excuse. You're sitting here trying to say who cares if Zay is on the field or not, that it doesn't make a difference. When it absolutely does makes a difference. The Offense is simply better when he's on the field.

Yes he has been inactive the majority of the year and there's people out here saying the Offense has struggled for the majority of the year.. Just a coincidence? Or maybe... Hmm, or just maybe he makes this Offense better when he's on the field. Like I said.

Yes Rid needs to play better, although he leads the league in drawing DPI penalties, which doesn't show up on the stat sheet, but most definitely helps the Offense. People love to ignore this though when they talk about Rid.

Regardless, the OL is the worst OL in the league and everything starts up front in the trenches. We get it that Baalke has failed in plenty of ways, but this thread isn't about front office, or coaching staff mismanaging, it's about Zay.

But yes, the OL being hot trash is the biggest reason why this Offense is struggling, but back to my point. The Offense is better when Zay is on the field. It just is. And no, I'm not saying he's the second coming of Jerry Rice, or any dumb [BLEEP] like that.
