Lawrence has all the potential and talent in the world. If we are being unbiased, it has not translated on the field. In 15 games he has 19 passing TDs in 15 games. Lawrence also leads the league in turnovers in 19.  I know that many of the Lawrence defense force points out because "x receiver drops balls is why his numbers are low." I call BS on that. Every team in the NFL have receivers that drops balls. I watch redzone and see it all the times. It is part of the game.  I still see a QB who lacks a soft touch when throwing the ball, a QB who misses receivers much more than elite QBs do, Miss open receivers to the point the broadcasters during the game are calling him out on it, just overall a bi-polar QB level of play.  For every positive trait of Lawrence I can give you a negative. Reminds me of Favre who at one time had the most TDs but also had the most INT's.  I do not see in Lawrence that Dawg of a QB who can carry a team. Could he become that guy?  Sure but not at the present time.

So the Question: Do you feel comfortable investing around 30-50% of the team's yearly salary cap on Trevor Lawrence?

Obviously, it would not be 30-50% of the team's salary cap.

For example:

Josh Allen (bills QB) will be earning 19% of his teams salary cap next season as things currently stand. (Will adjust down some after free agency and draft)
Yeah, the 13 (so far) people just saying yes no question are why Daniel Jones and Watson are rich and their teams are about to be a complete mess. Cleveland is good now, but they are about to be in a cap nightmare scenario for the remainder of Watson's contract if he does not restructure.

I would rather have a QB on a rookie contract and keep the rest of the team intact/improve this team then give Trevor a market resetting contract. He has not been that good, when he has been asked to carry the team he flounders way more than he succeeds.. A team friendly, middle of the road contract? Sure, maybe a little less than Cousins signed for when he went to Minnesota. Dude is not worth 45+ mil a year AAV.
100% pay the guy.

Not top 3 but the Herbert and Allen deals are on target.
Absolutely yes. Then I would give him a better oc and put press Taylor back at quality control assistant. Also, I would add a couple a+ offensive line to help out etn and Trevor. We are blessed to have a wonderful one two punch with etn and t-Lawrence.
Yep, I'd give him a ten year deal and make him the new highest paid NFL player just to irritate the trolls.

The correct answer. QB contracts are only going one way and the Josh Allen situation is the perfect example. You wait until he has a season he 'earns it' and its going to cost you way more.

We've spoken about this a few times and I don't see Lawrence as the kind of player to demand it, but I see Shad as the kind of owner who would do it to show Lawrence what he means to the team.

The current top 5 is

Burrow- $55m
Mahomes- $52.6m
Herbert- $52.5m
Lamar- $52m
Hurts- $51m

I think we end up around $52m-$54m a year which in 3-4 years will probably be like 6th or 7th on the list.
Lock him up with the 10 year deal now. The longer you wait, the more expensive it's going to be.

10 year deal? He hasn't shown that promise to lock him up that long. Stupid comment. This would screw the team in long term
[BLEEP] a 10 year deal, give him a 15 year deal right now.

So you'd rather see your "favorite" team struggle long term so you can make the trolls mad?

Wow, your such a team fan. Kudos.

Fire Doug? Careful you're troll is showing.

Aside from the SB year - Doug has been a mediocre coach, record speak for itself -- in all honesty if it wasnt that one year he won the SB champ - would he had a second chance at a HC job? Probably not.

You act like winning the Superbowl with foles was done on accident. Give me a break you can make that argument if you don't count x then coach y sucks blah blah for anyone.

If you don't have Brady BB looks bad guess the Patriots where real stupid to keep him for all those years.

Your looking for the perfect coach/team/owner/players here's a hint it ain't Jacksonville so your wasting your time.

Yep, I'd love to see the Jaguars struggle to winning seasons long term just to irritate people like you.

Exactly, because QBs stay young forever.

he's 24, QBs have gotten big money in their 30s.. I'm saying I would opt to try and maybe add 1-2 years to his current deal at a more modest price to leave cap room to continue building the team rather than break the bank for a mega deal that destroys our cap right away when he currently has not played up to the level of any of the guys getting that kind of money.

If he comes out next year and goes crazy and they decide to restructure it to give him more money when he earns it, I also have no issue in that either.

Locking him up long term dosen't matter, we all know these QBs just get restructured deals every few years for more money. Trevor seems like a cool team player but at the end of the day I wouldn't expect him or any other player at the position to not get as much as they can.

It matters.

The more years in the initial contract, the more flexibility the front office has to spread out money from the get-go. And that will be of great assistance given our cap space and roster needs this offseason.

To win the SB it takes some luck too.

I mean how many OCs or HC were carried to the SB just because of talent? Plenty.... Ken Whisenhunt comes to mind.
For top 15 money? yeah, sure
For top 5 money? LOL no
Top 10? not sure
yeah I definitely have no issue signing him, but I would be a bit worried if they gave him a record contract right now.. it's just simply not been earned.
Who cares if other teams (Browns, Giants) are stupid enought to overpay for average talent? 5 years, 45 mil per. Based on his overall play so far, this is fair. Anything more, and we wont be able to provide proper resources to support him, which will cause him to perform below his pay grade. Weve already seen that this year without a big contract in place.
Why do people think he and his agent would be stupid enough to sign an early long term cheaper extension now?

He knows he can command a lot more money with another year or two of experience.

Both sides have to agree on a deal. You can't just say sign him on the cheap now why we can. He wouldn't accept such an offer.
