Welcome friends and foes alike to our second preseason game day thread. Tonight the back ups get their time to shine as the bucs and Jags both sit their starters. Expect to see lots to make you happy and more to cause despair, because we wouldn't be Jags fans without something to complain about.

Game time is 7:30 pm. Local coverage on Channel 4 with Sexton and Bucky Brooks messing up the call.

Have a great day everyone!
Really? They aren't playing their starters at all? This 3-game preseason feels weird.

We get Jones vs Trask. They expect the second teams to start most positions.
Tryouts.
Hey, it’s still football. Let’s go JJs!
I was able to sell our tickets because we couldn’t attend. I didn’t make my money back, but it was better than zero.

These two teams practiced together very hard all week, Doug never plays his starters after a shared hard practice week.
It is a little surprising that the starters won't go out for a drive or two (hard practice or not), for most teams in the league game #2 is the last time the starters will see the field before the actual season. I'm assuming no starters will play in game #3 as well, so that leaves nearly a full month for the players between preseason game #1 and game #1 of the season.

Ackshullllly, they're saying that the starters will have their full dress rehearsal half of play next week in game 3.
Headed to the game tonight anyone else?

Aah, that's definitely a different approach.  Hopefully the starters come out of game 3 healthy, looks like the Falcons (game #3 opponents) are taking a similar approach as they're resting their starters this week as well... so maybe it's not as unusual as I thought.  I suppose I'm used to skipping through most of the last preseason game.
It all changed when they went to 3 games vs 4.

Yep… starters will probably play the entire first half, from what I remember reading somewhere a little while ago.. (that’s my source and I’m sticking to it…)

Spending the day on the beach then my daughter's for a watch party.
There is no correlation at all, but if Patrick Mahomes plays today I want to see Trevor play today.  But that's just me.

And today is officially the day I start hating on the Houston Texans...and CJ Stroud.

Want to see Mac Jones, Elijah Cooks (on special teams coverage), and Tank on the skill positions

Cooper Hodges and Steven Jones on the Oline

Maason Smith, Chad Muma, Edmunds and Breeland Speaks on defense.

Lots of stuff to take out of this game even though Trevor isn't playing.
Goofball on NFL Network saying the tinhorns are the biggest threat to KC in the AFC...lol.
I'm not super thrilled about pre-season games.  To me they are nothing but a glorified scrimmage.  I might watch about the 1st quarter or so.

Vanilla plays, vanilla formations, vanilla schemes... done by backups or in a lot of cases by players that won't even make the final roster...  it's just not all that interesting to me.
Update...after watching some of the week 1 game again, Trevis Gibson (who I think will be important throughout the season) and Cam Little.    I want to see if Cam can place his kickoffs way better than he did last week.    I expect Cam to get good at field goals.  We need him good at placing the kicks and kicking the ball out the back of the endzone.

Otherwise...might as well have a positional player that can kick and tackle play on the kickoffs and have Cam on the sideline.

It would also be nice to see Walker Little have a good game at RT.

Unlike most, I expect Cam Robinson to be gone next season, Anton to be our LT and it'd be nice if Walker could be our RT for the next 3-4 seasons.  No, I don't think the rookie tackle will be better than Walker Little next season.  Not at all.  So hopefully Walker gets a lot of reps this game.
I hope Strange has a good game today. I also want to see Maason Smith cause some havoc up front

I think it’s pretty clearly the Ravens.
