Quote:Great story, but this is a bit more than expected.

A 4 yr/40 mil deal would have been very good if he was on the open market, but after buying out two of his 'pre arbitration' years to steal a baseball comparison I would have expected a bit more of a discount on the back end. I thought he'd get more like 4/32. Still fine and not complaining, just a bit high...certainly not a Mike Thomas deal.
It's in line what the market commands, and based on his production, it's a steal.
This was a great move by both sides. Congratulations to Allen Hurns and to the Jacksonville Jaguars for getting this deal done.

It is market value if he were a FA now IMO, but if you look at the huge amount of pre-arb baseball deals...when you're buying out that many of the penny years you always get well below market value on the back end and I think Hurns got market value across the board. I really don't care to debate it since it's a fine deal that was just a tad high, so I edited the original post too.
So glad for Hurns, it couldn't happen to a more deserving player.

Definition of earning it

Not overpaid at all. Pretty much in line with the market. Three years ago Victor Cruz got 9 million per year, with the amount of wage inflation the league has had the last few years 10-11 million a year is just fine, and now Hurns can play knowing his future is protected.
Good for Hurns. Oh, and lol @ the people that thought we were going to resign Hurns for like 6M a year.
It's great to know that Hurns will remain a Jacksonville Jaguar!

This isn't baseball.
Caldwell once again making the right move.

It happens plenty in the NBA too, and wouldn't the logic apply even moreso in a league with a hard cap?
Even if he is slightly overpaid.. Who cares.. He's our guy.. Our GM rewarded him for his play and character. Other players will take notice!

Hurns is the man
Btw it's awesome that the whole team has been congratulating him on Twitter. Love the chemistry we have going!

NBA and MLB contracts are totally different animals.

It's apples to oranges in terms of money.  Particularly in guaranteed money.

Look at the guaranteed money and then get back to me.

That was pretty much my point. He's slightly overpaid, and who cares.

20 mil ties him for 12th in the league at WR right now. That's a lot.
Hurns is a beast. So glad we locked him up for 4 more years and so glad this guy went from undrafted to multimillionaire through sheer will power and determination.

But, you said 4 year 32 million. Which is 8 per year. Being that this is an extension and we have him for the next 5 years, his 2016 salary is 600k.so we essentially have him for 5 years for 40.6 million. Which is pretty much 8 per year...

Of course you think he is overpaid.  He is underrated by you a good bit.
