Like Canada!? Outside of Toronto Canada isn't any socialist meca. Even today it's not common for small outlier towns to have zero access to doctors or healthcare. The wiat for routine medical procedures triples here. Well into the 60 and 70s if you didn't belong to the right church you couldn't work! The cost of living is double here, you my friend are mistaken if you think Canada is a model you want to follow. It's a beautiful country full of hard working peole that have been screwed by authoritarian socialist.

I have 2 cousins that live in Canada. One in Vancouver and the other north of Winnipeg.
What you describe is not what I hear from them..
I know a few who have lived in Vancouver and all say what a great place it is. Also always rates highly in most livable city rankings.

Why don't you get your head out of your rear, and figure it out for yourself. :-)
I was providing an anecdote to counter another person's anecdote.
Try to keep up, badger

Yea, I have friends in London (Ontario), Toronto, and just outside of Winnipeg and all of them laud their system.

Was ready for that. Sorry I should have stated Northern/Western Europe. Though Greece is more complicated due to the euro being a total disaster, having a Currency tied to Germany is not good for them.

Well, I don't particularly "know someone" in Vancouver, but I was there a few years ago. I can say from personal experience that it wasn't "all that and a box of chocolates". Some of the people that I talked to actually mentioned and asked why we were "screwing up" our health care system (many of them used it).
I had the same similar experience years ago (back in the 90's) in Scotland. The person there raved about how we had the best health care system in the world.

So only some Europeans live well under a Socialist or socialist/capitalist hybrid?
Lol, it makes me laugh that republicans are still believing the lie that Obama care is so terrible.
My health care premium went up only 1% this year. 1%!!! That's the lowest rate increase I've seen for at least a decade.
But yeah, we totally jacked up the system. Lol, silly.
Visiting and living in a place are very different.
Some people in UK have no idea how good they have it. But shows how unaware of popular opinion, no political party would ever campaign on scrapping the NHS as it would be the least popular policy of all time.

Care to look into systems that are purely capitalistic, chief?
Let me give you a hint, it's ugly.
Quote:So only some Europeans live well under a Socialist or socialist/capitalist hybrid?
Well yes for obvious reasons that they have different governments, varying resources, effects from war, the USSR etc.
Still even in Greece life expectancy is higher than the US. So can't be all bad eh.

It wasn't the premiums, it was the increase in deductibles and the cuts in coverage.
Our deductible was $250 before Obamacare. Now it's $5000.
But the premiums haven't gone up!
Maybe a nice public alternative would lower your costs and worries Malabar, also stop the private insurers gouging the customers

Well, my premium is much higher as well as my deductible and out-of-pocket expense. The amount that I pay (as a "middle class citizen") rose up. Just wait until next year's numbers come in.

Sure visiting and actually living in a place are two different things. However, I wasn't speaking about living there, I was speaking about talking to people that actually do. The part in bold pretty much is the problem.

So yes, even though your standard of living is lower and your government is on a unsustainable track, it can't all be bad.

The fact of the matter is, examples like Greece and Venezuela are perfect examples of how socialism would never work in this country. Having a higher life expectancy accomplishes what? Live longer in misery?

Yes, lets lower my insurance payment and raise my taxes.
