Quote:Yea pretty much, just a little bit more motivation to get better for Bortles, as if he needed it. I hear the guy is very competitive even in the off-season and I hope he takes another big step into elite status this year. Teddy Bridgewater is literally a new age, skinny David Garrard. Efficient, average, and somewhat effective with a good roster around him. Shouldn't even sniff the top 100, let alone top 10 @ QB. You put Teddy on the 2014 Jaguars and I would be shocked if he was still walking and threw more than 10 tds. You put Bortles on the Vikings and that is a scary team/offense.

If you put Bortles in Minnesota last year, do you believe they would have won more than 11 games, win the division ahead of Green Bay, make playoffs and lose by 1 pt to Seattle?

I staunchly don't believe they would have, precisely due to Bortles' style of play. High risk, high reward.

Many around here are obsessed with just how average Bridgewater is. And he doesn't even play for the team. Imagine if Jags had drafted him? He would have been harassed to pieces.

Bortles and Bridgewater fit their respective systems. Only, Bridgewater has proven he can win 10+ games and make the playoffs, in year 2. Gripe all you want. Reality says look at me in the face.

If you think they won because of TB you're sadly mistaken. It was all AP and their Defense. TB just had to not mess it up. He's a career game manager. He will be another Garrard.

Not really fair to compare the situations though is it? I mean if we had even a 17/18th ranked defense last year we would have gone to the playoffs too. Put Teddy in our team last year and how well do you think he would do?

He'd be dead behind this Oline

Yep and say goodbye to our deep passing attack.
Quote:If they say the receivers made bortles is stupid because especially in hurns case many of his receptions are from bortles scrambling buying time for him to get open. Their isn't a good qb in this league including Tom Brady isn't benefiting from their receivers so if that's your best explanation then i advise you to rethink your position on it.

They believe the receivers are better in their craft than Bortles is at his, so in the grand scheme of player ratings, the receivers surfaced higher. Those jump balls sure catches the eye.

They probably also think the top 6% of players in any given year should know where the line of scrimmage is, etc.

Blake Bortles is fearless, driven QB with immense talent, wow factor (in both ends of the spectrum) and moxy. Hopefully he countinues to get better and clean up some glaring shortfalls to his game. He is a vertical commander of the field that will push the ball downfield and make your DBs really work. I believe he can ascend to elite status in the coming years.

I don't believe he played in the top 94th percentile of the league's elite last year. Top 100 means best 6%. I am grateful that multiple Jags are on the list.

I didn't compare.

Never will

Responding to those who do

Always will

i am too and within time blake can earn his way on it so i agree with your assessment on it.
Bridgewater will not make it in Jacksonville and we will not have close to the offense we do now with him at the helm.

Blake Bortles has the vertical game and aerial skills the Jags need as they continue to revamp the D. He is leaps and bounds better in that regard.

Bridgewater is precisely what a team like Minnesota needs, with a good D, good running game. He manages the game smartly and efficiently and yield wins

Different QBs, both fit their respective systems
What has occurred so far, 89 Allen Hurns and 83 Telvin Smith right?  Any other jaguars as of yet?

So Allen Robinson didn't make it?

How?

Trent Dilfer won a championship

Will Jay Cutler?

One is a classic example of game manager, the other is known to be a fearless deep ball pusher

Ultimately, we all prefer wins and titles to a scary offense

I think the Jags are on the cusp of big things. But can we let Bridgewater do his thing in peace, without more condescension spewing his way? He doesn't play here.

Dilfer had an all time great defense on his side and a good run game. Any decent quarterback would've won a championship with that team including cutler. Bridgewater is holding back the Vikings team for sure. They have a great defense and one of the best running games yet they don't win as much as they should. Teddy does not except make sure he doesn't make mistakes. Blake could do that if he needed to and he could do a better job of it. However, there's not point for him to play him like that because he can do so much more. If bortles was on Minnesota I guarantee they win more games last year. It's silly to think that teddy is just playing within the system. He's just not able to do anything now more than what he is doing now. If he played on mostly any other team they would be looking for a new quarterback.
You are saying what we've been saying

D and strong running game needed for rings

Bridgewater is a game manager. Bortles isn't. One plays smart conservative football, perhaps due to his limitations, and manages to eke Ws. The other can attack the living daylights out of you but also give you chances to capitalize on his fearlessness.

You "guarantee" that Bortles would have won 12+ games last year had he been in Minnesota? I can't see it based on his style of play.

Bortles has a higher ceiling, a far more vertical QB. Him and TB are like cheese and chalk, very different. I am not sure Bridgewater is as bad as you feel though.

My last response on this matter, for now. For the record, I didn'the compare the two on my own accord, they can't be compared. I only opined with those that jeer at TB.

Bridgewater won 11 games last year due to a good day and running game. You "guarantee" that Bortles would have won 12+ had he been in Minnesota? I can't see it based on his style of play.

Yes because a lot of bortles mistakes were forced because he knew the defense couldn't hold up or because he had to throw 40 times a game due to nobody being able to run the ball. Peterson would've been better with a QB that could actually take some shots downfield as well. You never saw teddy do anything other than dink and dunk which allowed the defense to play closer to the line and try to stop Peterson. Bortles could harness some of his risks he took if he played for a complete team. I'm not being overly high on bortles either. I think mostly any quality starter could do the same. Carr, cutler, stafford, even Fitzpatrick could maybe do better.

The point is that teddy can only be successful on a team that is carrying him, while most other quarterbacks that are considered any good can do things that actually cause them to win in spite of the rest of the team. This is why any of these quarterbacks could do better in Minnesota.

There's still 3 more. Ideally he'll be the highest jag

You're making it seem like I made the list. Just stating what they say I.e. garbage stats, receivers bailed him out etc. I personally believe he should be on the list

My point is most qb's have garbage stats and receivers bailing them out it's call them doing their job. I'm just sick of Bortles not getting his credit as a QB it's especially bothersome that some of the criticism is coming from his own fan-base who not only knows the circumstances but watches this team play on a weekly basis.

They really should have beaten Seattle too. If only their good FG kicker didn't inexplicably miss a chip shot FG, although it was high-pressure chip shot FG.

You can add in much better head coaching and an above average FG kicker in there too, along with AP and a really good defense.

Coaching, and kicking, can make a big difference, especially if the teams are evenly matched.
