What are the odds that Buckner will even be there by #5? If the Jaguars passed on Leonard Williams would they draft Buckner this year?

Buckner is the better prospect IMO. Would rather Jack or Ramsey though.
I just watched the video with Johnny O it almost seems like he slipped up with some inside info on Buckner & Dave's draft board...

Fowler hitting the bags, looked a bit rusty.

The pause by Oesher at the end is just Oesher being Oesher.  It's an example of why alot of people, myself included, are annoyed by his speech mannerisms.  Dude has no business being anywhere near a microphone.

Yea, Oehser speaking is like 25% pauses and grunting.
Quote:So far most of the Jaguars draft talk revolves around Jack, Ramsey, Bosa and Tunsil with DeForest Buckner generally as an afterthought. He's widely seen as redundant and not a position of need for the Jaguars. But the Jaguars have dropped hints IMO that he's possibly more in play than we think he is.

The first hint was signing Malik Jackson. Many people didn't see that as a position of need with Marks on the roster, and some general depth there already. But they signed him nonetheless. The second hint was going after Robert Ayers, who by all accounts that I've heard would have played as an inside rusher similar to Jackson. The only other pass rusher they went after that I know of is Olivier Vernon, who is very similar in size at least to Dante Fowler and likely would have played similar roles.

So it's not as much that they didn't sign an edge rusher, but more that they only really went after one guy. This can be interpreted in many ways. You could argue there wasn't anyone to sign, or that Caldwell just simply screwed up. But I think it means something different.

It almost seems they are valuing inside rush over outside rush, and possibly have some defensive scheme in mind that focuses more on players of that type. I don't know what it is, or how, but I'm starting to think the people who think they couldn't get Buckner on the field enough to warrant the pick may be wrong.

The fact that they didn't sign a single outside pass rusher in FA is peculiar with Dave Caldwell himself speaking in press conferences about the dire state of the pass rush and the idea that there would be <a class="bbc_url" href='http://www.bigcatcountry.com/2016/1/21/10806516/jaguars-will-have-influx-of-pass-rushers-says-dave-caldwell'>"an influx of pass rushers"</a>. Is he really relying on rookies and Dante Fowler coming off an injury to turn around the pass rush from the LEO position? Or is the LEO position not as important as we're making it out to be? Are they implementing a new scheme? One where LEO isn't nearly as important in the pass rush as it used to be? If so, maybe they value Buckner over Bosa. Maybe Buckner is the only pass rusher they like in the first round.

I'm going to quote Alfie from BCC here who I'm pretty sure is against drafting Buckner. But this quote is relevant:

On Jaguars Today they said they would have to consider going a more traditional 4-3 route.

that's from last year dude
I would have to rewatch it, but when I saw it last night he wasn't really hitting the bags up high.. ( i had thought).

Well, I think this is certainly a possibility. I've said on here, I feel that taking Buckner to be a 5T would be a waste of his talent and he's a better 3T. That said, even if we assume that we are going to a more traditional 4-3 front...wouldn't that still make Bosa the better option? Assuming this is correct and we go to a more traditional 4-3, here's the possibility:

RE - Fowler

DT - Malik/Marks/Buckner

LE - Odrick

or

RE - Fowler

DT - Malik/Marks/Odrick

LE - Bosa

There's also Roy Miller, who is one of the captains on this team and held in high-regard by just about everyone. Moving to a 4-3 would kind of leave him without a true defined role. While I don't think Miller prevents us from taking Buckner, again it comes down to it, why not just take Bosa? Unless they really feel Buckner is head and shoulders better than Bosa, from scheme fit...Bosa fits us.

I do wonder, since there are some rumblings that Bosa likes to party a bit much. He's no Manziel, but the thing that this FO seems to value a lot is how important the game is to the players. If they think Bosa parties too much, would that drop him in our board?

I think Jack and Ramsey are definite fits personality wise with this team though
All the talk about how Marks would be ready by week 1 or 3 last season and when he finally did play he wasn't a 100% and then got another injury & now we are to expect that he'll be a 100% with no problems all season & that Fowler Jr will be a 100% by week 1... we only need to look at how often WR Lee has been injured to know that most guys don't come back a 100% with no problems after a serious injury like that....

Another reason I hold my breath with Myles Jack...

I can see Buckner, Bosa both being in play because of the uncertainty with Marks & Fowler.  IMO if Jalen Ramsey is there at 5 none of that will matter he'll be the pick...

As great as Myles Jack is (despite the knee) he's more of a fit on a team like the Chargers 3-4 or the Cowboys than he is with the Cover 3, 46/Bear defense in Jacksonville.
