Great signing. We'll find out what Joekel has now.  Either pushes him to get better or get out of the way

Quote:I wonder if Joeckel could play center? You don't have to be as strong at center as you do at guard, because you don't have to block one on one as often. Center is more about intelligence and athleticism which Joeckel has.

I know Max Unger the NO (and longtime SEA) center used to play tackle in college. Also, didn't the guy from FSU make the switch a couple years ago? So I know a tackle to center conversion can work. Maybe it would work for Joeckel too.
You want a guy who couldn't push his grandmother out of the way to play center?

I think he's suited to play tackle.  He's just not very good at it.  Moving him around the line simply creates a hole wherever he lands.
Great signing. If Joeckel beats Beachum out, Beachum can move inside to LG. Although if healthy, Beachum will win the competition.
Either way we now have a nice backup option for injuries etc.

Whether he starts for us or not, Beachum gives us quality depth at LT one way or another.

If all goes well with his rehab, he should be ready by preseason.

Part of me thinks, either directly or indirectly, intentionally or not, the Steelers helped us out by announcing their tackle signing when they did.  I think if Beachum had any hesitation about coming here, I think he might have returned to Pittsburgh and re-signed with them.  When news of the Steelers signing their guy was announced, that option closed to him.

Of course, this is nothing but wild speculation on my part, and it's moot at the end of the day.

Beachum is a Jaguar and if healthy, seems another fine addition by the front office.

Yes! Make Luke work for the starting job.

If he's healthy, I bet he wins the starting job. At least there is good competition at that spot now!
Make both of them work for the starting job. Competition is good. And whoever wins, we've got improved backup.

I think it's more likely that Joeckel (or another tackle) would shift inside to guard, with Cann or Linder moving to center.
I think moving Joeckel inside would be a disastrous move.

All his career, the talk has been how Joeckel needs to get stronger.

Outside, he will have to worry about speed more than power.

Inside, just about all he will face are big, powerful guys,  Some 330 lb or more guys.

If he is having problems with DEs, he would struggle mightily with more powerful DTs.

His struggles would be at the expense of the entire team.

The running game would suffer.  Bortles would suffer.  The receivers would suffer.

I would only move him inside under extreme emergency.

Keep Joeckel outside if you are going to keep him on the team.

are the contract details out yet?

Except, of course, the only way Joeckel would start inside would be through competition. So all of the rest is a moot point.

If he loses the competition at LT, he's going to have to compete for another spot...

You are a miserable douche about anything Jags related.
Let them all compete for their positions. If Joeckel is not better, he will have a better view of the game on the bench - and plenty of time to work out and get stronger.

For speaking the truth. Dont get me wrong, I like what we've done but to say it was great without addressing our most glaring need is idiotic.

That's his shtick. He is a really dumb version of TMD. The Jags could win the superbowl and he would still be whining and crying. It's all he knows how to do. Unlike TMD, he is far too stupid to make it at least interesting.

There goes Dakota, contributing nothing of worth.

What will make you happy, for me to drool over the teams free agency signings. I've said in many threads. I like what we've done but we did not fix our most glaring need on this team which likely cost this team wins last season, you can continue to tow the company line (because that's what you do ) all you want, but its still our biggest need.

By the way, we are far from a superbowl so stop mentioning it.
Superbowl baby! Banana

There's nothing wrong with having 3 good OTs.  Even if Luke ends up riding the pine, he'd be a valuable swing Tackle.  Beachum may not be 100% in September, so we may already need the 3rd guy,  Bottom line, we're stacking up good players and who plays where will sort itself out.

Former Steelers' OT Kelvin Beachum reached agreement with Jacksonville, per league source.

Do you have to tear an ACL to be consider a Jaguar player?

Does he start over Luke Joeckel that is the question...?

Still good moves in Free Agency by Dave Caldwell.. he's making enough play in FA to allow him to truly draft BAP...
