Anyone find it odd Mike Kaye said "yes" when asked if he thought there was a good chance we sign him?

I also don't mind Luke like most here, but he is pretty talented and most have considered him the best LT on the market, and one of the better offensive lineman in FA but with the injury it's hurt his stock.

We don't need a stud at LT to replace Joke. Bring him in for competition sake.
Quote:Time is not his friend right now. The longer the FA seconds tick away, the more dollars elude him. I don't know what his bonus and salary numbers will end up being but I'm fairly certain that the ratio between guaranteed bonus dollars and salary dollars will decrease as time goes on.

I would guess somebody at this point would extend something in the neighborhood of 2-3 years with $15-$18 million total with a signing bonus of possibly $7 million?

Thanks for your input on the question.

If teams like the way Kelvin Beachum is progressing in his recovery,  what you mentioned would be a favorable contract for the team that signs him.   Especially,  when considering the demand for good pass blocking LTs being higher than the supply and the salary cap increases in recent years.

The Steelers are exploring many options at the position,  either in terms of starters or depth.   There's so many moving pieces to the LT ( and/ or Off. Tackle in general ) puzzle around the league,  including with the Steelers,  Jaguars,  Jets,  Giants,  Lions,  Seahawks,  Giants, 49ers, and Raiders.

Quote:Young, talented with good hands and feet technique, but coming off an October torn ACL that makes him a little bit of a gamble.

Yeah, but with Joekel and Beachum, we find a way to make it work. Maybe Beachum can work his way into the starting line-up mid-season when he's ready should he still struggle early on with his recovery. He'd be good to go next year as well. I love the idea of having two capable LTs, and from the sound of it, he was a bit of a beast in Pittsburgh before his ACL. He is a bit smaller than Joekel, but he should prove to be far more agile and capable. I just hope he can prove to at least be as good as Joekel in the run game.

Quote:Would love to have him but not getting my hopes up. Sounds like he wants to start and I doubt Dave/Gus will promise him that.

Just like with Ayers, he will want to start and not be rotational. That is of course assuming he wants to start at LT and that he is not open to playing LG.

The Jaguars don't rotate their OLs. Beachum will start when he can prove he's up to the task, so I don't see an issue here.

There kind of is if Donald Penn is still available, but he may only have a couple years left in his tank. Beachum could be a core guy down the road.

Quote:And unless he's got t-rex arms, he should be able to get under the pads of most rushers.
Just as long as he never gets stuck filling in at center.

At least T-Rex would've bit JJ Watt on his way to his 9th sack against us in that last game.

C Quentin Neujahr was so short and low when ready for the snap, I thought Brunell would have to take the snap from sitting on the ground.
This would be an interesting signing.   He's a smallish LT who started a lot of games for Pittsburg, but tore his ACL back in October.

When NFL.Com listed their "Top 99 Free Agents," they said, "<b>36. </b><b>Kelvin Beachum</b><b>, </b><b>Pittsburgh Steelers</b><b> tackle:</b> He would be ranked in the top 20 if he wasn't coming off a torn ACL."

Since Beachum is coming off a torn ACL, Joeckel could start the season at LT.  But in the case of Joeckel not playing well enough, or either Joeckel or Parnell getting injured, here's a really good backup.

He's visiting Monday, March 14.

Do not let him leave unsigned.

HeadSlap

Hope he signs. Nice to have more competition around at offensive line. If he can stay healthy we're in good hands.

Please sign here. Please.

He is on the "smallish" side for a LT but he is a tremendous athlete. Pittsburgh is wanting to move him inside to guard or center. That tells me something. It tells me they think that not only was he talented enough/athletic enough to be the LT, but also has that nasty streak to play inside. You've got to be a little bit more of a mauler and really want to get after it to be inside. Speaks highly of him I think.

Size wise, he is only shorter then what Joeckel is, they are the same weight. If he's nasty, I like it.

You would think he was a all pro left tackle the way you're speaking.

So in the 4 words he typed, you got the vibe that he thinks Beachum is all-pro?........

Well I mean look at who you're quoting.... Lol.

He pretty much was all pro level in 2014, and was off to a roaring start to 2015 too.

19 pressures in 16 games in 2014, and 6 pressures in 6 games in 2015 before he tore his ACL...

Iron Knee
Small as he is, he's still a solid player that could help the line as competition for Joeckel, a replacement for Joeckel with Joeckel sliding inside/to the bench, or as a potential starter at left guard himself. I love signings like that, and hope he lands here.
