If Beachum doesn't want to play here then screw him, we will be fine without him. Our season isn't gonna come down to kelvin friggin Beachum I promise.
Easy killer. He wouldn't be the first applicant in the history of job searches to talk to the other guy before making a decision.

We are in 100% agreement on this one
The guy is testing his options, I don't see the big deal personally. Sometimes you get lucky and Prince is a great fit and loves what his role would be. That isn't the same way with all players. Ayers wanted to be a focal point and starter, we couldn't promise him that with Fowler. With Joeckel, we can't promise him the LT job and he may be getting that from other teams or being told his chances are better elsewhere. It's not always cut and dry with what is the obvious choice.
Think we all need to take a deep breath here. If we don't land him, we got Joeckel who is an average LT and good enough with upside. If we get him, we get more competition and most likely a better LT unless Luke takes another step which is possible.
We'll be fine either way. I'd prefer Beachum route, but still.
What about all that no income tax crap?

This I agree with.

We hauled in.. well, a nice haul. Let us not despair over the ones that got away. I mean, hey.. What if that guy never gets back to the level of play he was once capable of. What if young Luke Joeckel breaks out in 2016 for a probowl type year. Our front office and staff stay working all year for this team and of course for their jobs, but that commitment should not go unrecognized.
We are a team on the rise. We all know the challenges, obsticles and resistance of trying to lure big name free agents (and second tier guys) to this small market team that really has to start winning to earn the respect of the league.
We are gaining respect and we will start winning, but this brass is working hard. They are working their tails off. Players have to play the game, including the business side. Really can't fault them for that. Although Bruce Irvin playin wit our emotions was uncalled for. ANYHOO! Time to crack this beer.
Quote:Doubt it. Beachum would be better off on one year deal to build his value back up if he has a chance. Right now people likely aren't offering the huge $$ he wants because of the ACL.
Still think Dave was trying to chase Beachum off the plane for a 1 year deal?
Exclusive image from Kelvin Beachum's plane window:
They sent Bortles skydiving to deliver the message, too.
It shows what they think of Luke.
I don't think this was the ideal landing spot for Beachum. Sure, I'd love to have him, but we can't guarantee him a starting spot, and he's a starting quality tackle.
Frankly, I was surprised when someone like him visited. I didn't think tackle was a priority. I thought it was guard.
Right now, I think we spend a pick in round 3 or 4 on a rookie guard. I think that's the plan.

I know what I think of Luke. I think he needs to be replaced. I'm not sure what Dave and Gus think of Luke. Everything that comes out of the organization seems to be that they have faith in him. That's why I was surprised when Beachum popped up on our radar. Beachum isn't a backup, and I don't think we can sell him on coming in and competing when it appears to the outside world that Dave and Gus still like Luke Joeckel.
This whole deal was kind of strange to me. I'm not sure what it means.
It means that Dave and Gus jumped at the opportunity to upgrade Luke when Beachum, a proven young capable starter, was still available after the first wave of free agency.

If it meant that, they'd have offered him real money and signed him. It means that they're looking to improve competition and depth on the offensive line, and Beachum wants to be guaranteed a starting role.
Kudos to BritishJag, great photo.
Jerry: "What about the undercoating? No undercoating?
Puddy: "Nope. We don't even know what it is."

Agree with this. There is a chance he is not even ready for camp because of the knee. I think it a case of him potentially being a replacement for Joeckel. Any deal here would probably be similar to Wisniewski's last year, or Amukamara this year.

No. Dave and Gus wanted to hire Beachum to compete to try and take the starter's job away from Joeckel. That situation is not attractive to Beachum. . He wants to start, period. He wants to be hired as a starter and paid as a starter.
I think it was worth a shot for Dave and Gus to try to get him. But I understand why he didn't sign. It wasn't a fit.
The guy is insane if he thinks that after a torn ACL in October he'll be assured of a starting job.

And what I don't understand is after 3 years of Luke, this isn't the Ayers/Fowler situation. I'm pretty positive they said something along the lines of "Luke is the current starter, however if you play better than him in camp, you'll get the start"
Coming off an ACL, idk what more you can ask for
