If I could go back in time I would have taken Russel Wilson head of Bryan Anger and Khalil Mack over Bortles.

Quote:Fowler could be just the nasty wrecking ball this defense needs.  We have talent but need an attitude.  Fowler brings it..hopefully with positive plays instead of penalties.  I'm excited to see what this defense can do.  It looks like a potential monster.

There's absolutely no reason why Fowler can't (physically) excel in a Dont'a Hightower type role, a bigger linebacker who isn't freakishly athletic but is athletic , strong, and long enough to effect the game in pass coverage, against the run, and as a pass rusher. This is how the Patriots use Hightower and it's brilliant, hes a jack of all trade but master of none so let him exclusively play in that role. If used correctly I think Fowler can add a unique, disruptive, violent element to this defense as an "enforcer" around the line of scrimmage. This is the role he played at UF and excelled in, the Jaguars defense is going to be so disruptive, and so athletic that it can afford a guy like Fowler to play in a role like this. Todd Wash has been gifted a mega talented defense which will allow him to get creative as all get out. The Jaguars defense was dominant at times last season, all while playing with a mediocre pass rush, they just added one of the most disruptive forces on the d line and a legit shutdown corner, this defense looks special.

Completely agree.
I liked Leonard Williams coming out. Fowler just needs to develop some pass rush moves. He has the athleticism
Would take Leonard Williams. Hopeful that Fowler will meet his potential.
I wanted Cooper or Williams, and definitely didn't want Fowler.

2 years later - I would still pick Cooper, Williams, or Beasley.

Fowler needs to come out on fire this year and easily top the 10 sack mark for us to have "hit" on this draft pick.

I thought the title said Dante Fowler IR. I was like whattttttt no way. LOL. But he should play some SAM and DE on pass rushing downs.

I'm a huge gator fan. I think fowler jr should some back super hungry this year. Look out for some great play I believe
Why does Yannick have a edge over fowler in starting? Fowler can at least help run defense and Yannick can't right?

Yannick also set the rookie sack record for our franchise. Yeah... that's more deserving.
Yannick was a pleasant surprise
At the time I wanted:

Williams, Cooper or trade back and get Waynes. Cooper is good, but in retrospect not a need after our receivers took a big step that year.

was tepid on Fowler at the time and I feel the same way now. He won't be a bad player or a total bust, but other than some training camp flashes he has loooked pretty average.

Hope I'm wrong and a scheme/ position change helps him shine.
lol he's a bust after his first year huh.

Because - so far - he's much, much better at pressuring, hurrying, and sacking the quarterback. Which is the primary role they were both drafted to perform.
It was Fowler's first year on the field. He was effectively a rookie. The NFL plays FAST, these are pro's not college kids. In two years Fowler is going to be a beast. He has the attitude and skill set. With the right coaching and scheme he will shine. They were saying that Clowney was a bust after one year and look what he did last year...

This guy.... has no moves to get him to the qb. Idk how the he'll we drafted him at 3.
With Malik and Calaias in the middle and Dante on the outside, Fowler and Yannick should be able to provide a lot of pressure in from the edge with the two big men in the middle. If we have a breakout player I would want it to be Bortles and then Fowler. If Fowler becomes a good pass rusher we are in good hands. If not we lost another top pick.

Todd Gurley, Amari Cooper, Vic Beasley was my top 3.. Leonard Williams rounds it out.
Let's all remember Beasley wasn't that amazing his rookie year either
How much is Fowler to blame, and how much responsibility belongs to Wash and the defensive scheme? Wash doesn't appear to be using Fowler like he was used in college, so they weren't playing to his strengths. Instead, the Jags were hell-bent on building that "scheme" that never worked for us. Many of the defensive starters have been unhappy with this scheme and have blamed the scheme for a lack of productivity. I would have to agree. I don't feel like Wash got creative enough with his use of Fowler. He couldn't even figure out how to get Myles Jack on the field.

I believe Fowler could still be a huge asset, but our defensive coordinator has to do better. Our blitzes always get picked up. Must not be too hard for opposing offenses to figure out.
